Is there any way to determine if my Explorer II 16570 with a D serial has a 3186 or 3187 movement without opening the case?

AJSM 12 November 2012 01:26 AM

3187 is only in the 42mm case.

in a 16570 the 3186 i believe will be accompanied by an engraved rehaut?

Thank you and my apologies for the double post. I tried to delete it twice with no luck.

Do you mean 3185 or 3186? I think the switch to 3186 was during the Z serial run.

Not necessarily - I have seen Z serials with the engraved rehaut and 3185 movement, although it's fair to say that the last of the 16570s will have both the engraved rehaut and 3186

jeffboehm 25 November 2012 01:32 PM

I have owned an explorer ii for about 5 years and I am very happy with it. It still oops great even though its showing its age and I am a proud rolex owner.

Bob -- Congrats on the two beautiful 1655's. Could you please elaborate on your "renovation" project? These examples look absolutely brand new, and the lumen material appears bright white. What's the secret?

Czechman 6 December 2012 07:41 AM

Current thinking is to not do any cosmetic embellishments to vintage watches. Service the movement, but no polishing or changing out parts such as hands and dials because that will diminish the value. Refinished dials are a definite no-no.

honitel 31 December 2012 09:17 AM

Excellent choice on that Explorer 2, The explorer is a good choice for any watch!

jamesbondOO7 31 December 2012 09:37 AM

I like my 16570 a lot. Extremely comfortable and practical.

mrhy 15 March 2013 03:02 AM

this is one senior citizen who prefers the 16570,the only thing that turns me on with the 216570 is the orange hand

Roy7 23 May 2013 12:08 PM

16570 Explorer II Y-Generation Functions?

So pulled out to position one, allows you to wind, position 2, allows you to adjust the main hour hand, position three, adjust the hour and minutes.

Is there a way to adjust the date only?

Thanks again.

Yeah. White Dial 42mm...It Glows Blue...Awesome.

G-Web 17 June 2013 02:10 AM

Explorer II is a fantastic watch in all its iterations.
Here's my newest love, a 16550 from the mid 80's.

Nice

strafer_kid 21 March 2014 12:26 AM

The new Explorer 42mm is a beautiful watch and superbly engineered, though the larger case is still a problem for some people, particularly if they were use to the smaller version. Its surprising the difference that the extra 2mm makes. Both can be picked up at great prices though and represent good value for money.

G-Web 21 March 2014 01:40 AM

If there's one watch I regret selling, it's this cream dial 16570.
There aren't many of these around.

Nice photos and detailed info. Thanks.

De Sisti 20 April 2014 01:18 AM

I had the dial on my Explorer II repainted black. The one detail I think they got
wrong is the second hand; it's white, rather thank silver(ish).

I took it to an official Rolex dealer and (after "checking it out") said it was worth
about £3000. They wouldn't accept it in px for a brand new model because of its
age (20 years old). I don't wear it much and much prefer the Explorer 1, (which
I should have originally bought).

anthoniejordan 4 June 2014 06:16 AM

Does anyone know of, or own, a 1655 with a serial number lower than 2,770,3XX?
