Smells like a perma ban!

JohnnySub 1 April 2011 11:22 PM

I have read the rules, they were very straightforward and nothing in my posts have broken any rules

Hang on.

You jump in with the "Ebay prices are all over the place I want to spend $600" thread, then a second "why did my first thread get locked?" thread.

You could have introduced yourself in the new members area and give us a story of your watch building project ... instead just these types of threads.

I'm letting this one fly to see if the watchtech guys want to help you but I suggest that you don't rub the other members up the wrong way.

I appreciate that English is probably not your first language but still ...

The Datejust case is designed for the Rolex 3135/3035 movement.. (depending on the year of the case)

It is possible to fit other movements, but they don't just "drop in". Most movements are smaller in diameter than the 3135 and so need a filler around the case and then a method of attaching both to the case.. You then have the issue of fitting a proper crown and stem that will both screw onto the Rolex case-threads, and also engage properly with the movement you select.. Additionally, you have a Datejust dial, which will not fit on another movement without modifying the attaching points..

It is also possible to find an early Tudor movement, which are modified ETA ebauchs, and since these have already been modified to fit into a Rolex case, you are sometimes good-to-go. The one lyou show is much too old to fit inside that case and is for a much, much earlier Rolex model....

If I were looking to build up a Rolex "project watch"; I would be looking for a proper Rolex movement.. Probably a 3035 for that case.

JohnnySub 2 April 2011 07:23 AM

thank you - that is awesome

would using an ETA movement be an option? Rolex/tudor used an ETA movement somewhere in their history... bit of a stretch, but still.....!

Only a 3035 would properly fit that case. You would have no problems with stem and crown alignment. Rik
