YM or ss GMT IIc
Hi all,
May I know your personal preference, and why? Its really hard to choose between these two great pieces. Your inputs will surely help me make decision on what to get. Thanks |
I'm a GMT II fan.
|
I prefer the GMT II C because of the updated movement, clasp and the futuristic ceramic bezel.
|
I own both. I Love the YM, but I luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuv the GMTc
|
I own the GMT II c and it is a very versatile watch. It has many of same characteristics that I like in the submariner (stainless steel, black face, black dial, triplock crown, cyclops) plus it has the ceramic bezel. However, I find the platinum yachtmaster to be a very beautiful watch also.
Good luck on a very tough decision Sean |

Welcome to TRF!
Both are awesome watches, but at the end of the day I'd go for the SS GMT II(c) due to the specs that Velitsko named but also because I like the extra "complication" of the GMT II movt. that comes in handy when traveling. Basically, only YOU can decide what to go for, at trying them both on at the AD might help you better decide. |

Not to mention the 2nd time zone complication |
I went for the GMTIIc. I'm happy with it; my only criticism is that the case seems somewhat blockish IMO. This takes some getting used to, especially if you’re used to other sports models. YM case has beveled edges, a nice touch and a little more refined. I think the GMT has more presence and is definitely more substantial in terms of size and weight. Both are nice…your in a good position either way.

GMT II is my vote due to its increased functionality.
|
my wife wants a plat ym and i think they are very beautiful, i am looking for one now. when it come down to getting one for myself i bought the gmt2c. the bigger case combined with the maxi dial, fat minute hand, ar on the cyclops and of course the ceramic bezel. i couldn't resist!!

GMT was the way I went, due to the update, functionality and the fact that it just "sang" to me. That said, the SS/Platinum YM is beautiful and I wouldn't mind owning one someday. I can see where this would be a tough choice.
Good luck. |
hmmm...functionality vs beauty...tough one. YM it is...
|
I vote GMT all the way.
|
Since you asked. This is how I feel. The GMT IIc is the top of it class. Now, you remove 24HR hand then you end up with SUB or YM. The difference between SUB and YM is just like a car equipped with steel wheel that have hub cap cover (SUB) and the car with alloy wheel(YM).
|
I'd vote GMT II-C, but I'd wait a few more months to buy, since prices are dropping steadily.
|
When I was looking for my current watch I looked at many different types of Rolexs, eg, Submariner, Submariner date, DD, etc. However the GMT IIc (current watch) had the polished centre links, updated braclet, updated movement, updated bezel, triplock crown, so in my eyes it has the best of many different Rolex models. The new braclet from the Daytona, triplock crown from the Submariner.
I have NEVER looked back on my watch, simply perfect! |
GMT all the way!But the platinum one looks wonderful too..
|
Neither get this one.
http://www.kineda.com/photos/gear/casio_watch.jpg I used it to cheat on my math test in 5th grade. :chuckle: |
Thanks for all your replies.
To tell you the the truth, my friends are pushing me to get the YM, but at the back of my mind, GMT IIc all the way. One thing though, its really hard to get a GMT IIc here in the Philippines. |

The YM is better value at present due to its secondary market price being only slightly more than the secondary market price of the GMTc SS, presently.
As others have said, this will not be the case soon as secondary prices are dropping on the SS GMTc. When is purchased my 116718 there was a gold YM available for £500 more. It had 45g less gold, the old style bracelet/clasp, less complicated movement. They still haven't sold it, 17 months on. |
I prefer the GMT II!
