16610 Submariner stopped working while being on my wrist 24/7
 

Had my new to me V serial 16610LN for a few weeks without any problems, never really wound it as it was delivered running and on time but this is first rolex ive owned that just ran out of reserve while wearing it? Any ideas? Or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Wind it.

Wearing it isn't what winds it, activity does. It is very common for the watch to stop on your wrist if you are inactive for the day.

Each day you need to put 24 hours of wind into it just to keep it at a static wind. Any less and it will eventually stop.

It sounds like it needs a service. It shouldn't stop if worn 24/7

It’s best to always keep your Rolex on a 24 hour wind but if that’s not the problem I guess it probably needs servicing

I’m not an expert, but I’ve had my sub since new- 20 years ago……. and worn it pretty much 24/7/365. It’s never stopped while being worn. I too would suggest service if it happens again.

Another question that arises: the earlier references vs. later 18,000-19K
vs the 28 K. beat rate ones.
Comparing my 1680 red Submariner and 5512 to a 16610 and 14060M:
it seems the 1680 is more tolerant of relative inactivity than the 16610.

There is also the factor of age. The 1680 was an original purchase in Hong Kong - 1971.
As we age, our activity level may quietly be reduced.
An Oyster Perpetual may be the best exercise monitor.

I just had the same issue albeit 2.5 yrs into 24/7/365 worn ownership of my 16613LB.

Looked down and realized I was an hour behind. Shook it and it started ticking again so went to take a shower. Looked down again in 5 mins or so and dead again. Tried winding it, it wouldn’t wind.

Took it to Rik Dietel and found out it had never been serviced.

If you are fairly active it probably needs a service. Realistically, if no provenance it needs a service anyways as yours could be like mine and never serviced.

I normally don't get much more than 5-5.5 years out of a daily worn auto winder before it needs a service to put it right.
Usually they stop randomly or altogether so it's the winding mechanism that starts playing up due to my activity levels.
Timekeeping is always very good and unchanged with the exception of one watch that went about 13 years until it's first service as an occasional wearer before timekeeping started to progressively shift and one could also see the ball bearing mounted Rotor starting to get a little sluggish on rotation through the Saphire caseback.
A service puts them right as one would expect:thumbsup:

I keep mine on 24 7, even in the shower or bath. I also go to the gym with it. I workout 5 times a day so I guess maybe this is why it never runs out. Only take it off if I go running.

in summer I never wear it when doing fitness because I have some kind of small allergy when I start sweating all day because of the weather but it never runs out.

As Larry stated wearing a watch dont wind the watch its wrist activity that makes the winding pendulum swing to wind the watch.And will add it will do no harm whatsoever to give full manual wind once a week or so to keep mainspring at peak power.
