What To Do With Scratches

My DSSD got scratched while it was accidentally hit near the lugs when I was closing the zipper of its watch case. Since it was in the polished side, I tought I could buff it using a metal polisher and a fine cloth. Indeed I was able to remove the scratch from the zipper but what was left were very fine scratches which could be seen at certain angles in the light.:banghead: My RSC said that to have them removed, it needed to be opened up and considering its new, I did not want this done this way.

Is there a way I could have it polished without it being openned? I don't want it deformed as what happens in a major rebuffing job.

Don't sweat it - scratches add character. Wear it around for a few years then send it back to Rolex for a case polish. It will return looking better than new

Small scratches they happen, especially it you want to wear it! keeping it scratch-less in a safe is not what Rolexes are for. Wear it with pride, credence to all who get their watches scratched while using it for its intended purpose.

That watch is bound to wind up with a whole lot worse than that unless it will become a safe queen. A zipper scratch?

Sorry to hear ricochet. Still wear it with pride.

Watches as in any thing else are bought for one of two reasons. either to enjoy or as an investment. If you want to enjoy it then wear it. If it's an investment then will the investment increase with it being worn or not? There are only 3 possible variations on you possessing it and two of them mean it will get scratched. It's entirely your decision. if you wear it, it will get scratched that is a certain
You just have to decide why you bought it and act appropiately.

Battle scars! :comeandge

I don't know if my opinion would comfort you, but I think tool watches look very tough with battle scars on them. A lot like trucks with mud and grime.

Leave the "safe queen" look to the Date Justs and Day Dates.

Congratulations on a great watch

Thanks Rob.

Although I wouldn't want to see your white dial TT YM with scratches on it. :chuckle:

TIP: Purchase a small roll of 3M Paint Protection Material on Ebay. I generally place a piece on the bracelet where it constantly rubs against the desk etc. You gotta cut the piece with all edges rounded or it will peel. In fact if your patient you can protect much of the bracelet and not affect the appearance of the watch.
I also get sick when I get any damage on my 7-10K watch. Unfortunately I make nowhere near 6 figures so I prefer no "personality scratches"

The watch is meant to be worn, scratches? don't sweat it. also when it's time for a tune-up you can the AD buff it! just like new!!
