What a great great pickup. That’s such a stunning variation. I love the DD2. For the proportions are just right. I like the thicker more masculine look of it. Awesome. Happy for you!

Thanks. Yes, this is my second consolidation in 4 years. The previous I posted here in early 2000 when I went 7 to 1 in favor of the Patek 5980. I’m now wondering if another rapid-fire consolidation is in order. The dealer had the Daytona Platona with baguette hour markers…

Thanks! As I am getting older my tastes are altering which brought me to where I think many of us Rolex aficionados go out to pasture - Day Date

Yes, as I mentioned in the thread, my situation was that the dealer had both 40 and 41 in identical configurations at almost exactly the same price. I had the choice of each. So, the decision was purely down to aesthetics, since I am unconcerned with the 48 vs 70hr power reserve. I find the DD II more cohesive, its size making it a blend between day date maturity and perhaps sports watch coolness. Again, that’s my opinion and others may differ.

What would you guys do concerning the Platona the dealer proposed? Trade my four Daytona’s for it? Or, keep the neovintage zenith’s and modern ceramic Daytona’s for variety and forget the Platona?

As a left field proposal I have another dealer offering a Rose Gold 5980, but for that, in addition to the 4 Daytona’s, I’d need to include probably all the Daytona’s, the AP chrono and the sky dweller…
