Exp2 Date change taking long

Hey everyone,

I have an Exp 2 226570 and I have recently noticed the time it takes for the date to change after 12am is approximately 5-7 mins.

I've read most people say 1-3 mins is the average window for the date to change.

I wanted to see if this is normal or if anyone has had a similar experience?

The date should change instantly.

When it changes visually is a function of where the hands were pressed on at assembly and a few minutes either way is normal. It is a visual thing, they aren't connected directly to each other.
There is generally nothing wrong with the watch or movement if yours is more or less than some average you read about - they're averages, not absolutes.

If it is actually malfunctioning then, of course, you should have it looked at.

It's definitely taking longer than a few mins which is what concerned me and perhaps a malfunction.

I have spoken to my AD and waiting on a response.

Is this a new watch or did this recently start happening with an older watch?

I'm not sure OP understands what Tools said. With my 126234 the date changes approx 6-7 mins after midnight. When it changes, it changes instantly. It sounds to me that OP is describing similar results to my 126234 if I am understanding correctly.

Mine changes pretty exactly at 00.06.15
I had the same thoughts when I got mine, but I’m not up at 00.00 anyway

Been having the same issue with my new GMT. Date will change around 7 minutes past midnight. Otherwise been keeping great time. Within about +1 second per week give or take. Don’t necessarily want to have it messed with because I’d prefer it keep good time vs have the date be instantaneous… Though it still bothers me.

The date should change instantaneously and as long as it’s within 10 minutes (usually 7) it is ok. Atleast that is my understanding having owned this reference and a GMT.

Nothing to worry about. My sub date from 2022 changes at 12:06. This should not fall into the same category as everybody worried that their crown on the winding crown does not point straight up when fully tight!

The longest interval after midnight for a date change of my Rolex watches is 12 minutes (12 series BLRO). The shortest is 2 minutes (11 series Sub Date). All date changes on my Rolex watches are instantaneous. For me, it's preferable to the long drag from as early as 22.45 in one case, for my other mechanical watches.

In my experience all my date Rolex have changed at 00:06.

At least it’s not acting up like my wife’s Datejust. It’s currently at RSC under the two year service warranty; it’s the second time it’s been in for the same issue. It sticks between the dates from 12 am to about 3 am, then snaps forward.

My DJ41 also changed around 6-7 minutes after midnight and like yours it was instantly.

Thanks everyone for the responses. This is a great forum and I'm looking forward to contributing more in the future.

For context, I bought the watch from an AD in March this year, so it shouldn't be due to an old or damaged movement.

Based on what others have shared, I’m assuming this is normal, but it felt odd since I've read some date changes usually happens immediately, and this one seemed to take forever.

EDIT: I tried uploading some pictures, but having some size and format issues.

Download TapaTalk and it's much easier to post pictures. I've always had a problem sending pictures on this website.

My GMT and DJ41 change around 5 to 7 minutes after. But the date changes “immediately” when it does change if that makes sense.

My Omega Seamaster changes about 5 minutes before.

I never worry about it.

The way you’ve stated you problem is a bit confusing. Can you please be a little more precise? Is it - (A) when the watch changes the date, it takes several minutes for the date wheel to go from one date to the next, or (B) when the watch changes the date, it doesn’t change precisely at midnight, but changes several minutes later. Then, when it changes, the change is instantaneous.

If your answer is (A), the watch should be serviced. If your answer is (B), that’s normal. Some of us have the date change at midnight, and others of us see the date change several minutes after midnight.

Most devices typically update the date within 1-3 minutes after midnight, a 5-7 minute delay can be unusual.

If you mean that the date wheel flips over quickly but does so several minutes after midnight, then that's fine.

If you mean that the date wheel takes a few minutes to gradually/slowly turn, then that's a problem.

My Sprite GMT "starts" its date change about 10min past 12. It takes two hours to flip the wheel around to the next day.

Keeps near perfect time.

June 2022 purchase date FYI...one of the early versions of the Lefty.

Should change in the blink of an eye, rapid fast instantaneously. the way in the wheel move slowly, such as over a period of minutes, is a malfunction

My DJ41 flips the date 7 past midnight, whereas my Hamilton ($400) flips on the dot at midnight. Go figure.
