Steelman argument for the Cubitus

TS can say he doesn’t want the Nautilus to be the face of Patek, but he’s kidding himself. It already is.

He stubbornly refuses to increase the production of steel watches. Instead of listening to his would-be customers, he introduces a half-baked substitute that no one asked for and will consume limited production capacity, making the Nautilus/Aquanaut even harder to get.

It’s a joke, and a slap in the face of anyone who ever wanted a Nautilus/Aquanaut.

IF the intent of this collection is to give if to young first time buyers...no young first time buyer will ever get that stainless steel with the green dial. they wont.

Maybe people who only want an Aquanaut/Nautilus are not the customers PP wish to acquire.

In that case, it makes sense that PP does not adapt their strategy to these persons.

Agreed. I don’t know if this is a stroke of genius from TS who didn’t want PP to be simply known as the Nautilus company, but ultimately what you say is essentially what it all boils down to.

I think it is a bit early to reach that conclusion.

From what I know, collectors have already expressed their interest in these new timepieces, though they have several Nautiluses and Aquanauts.

Time will tell.

PP will sell every... single... one... they can mass produce. Double and triple sealed is the goal.

No reason to wear it. Safe is best until the next bubble or when you need extra cash. That, imho, is what is best about the new releases. These new releases are possibly not to be considered for any real use like swimming, diving, and carefully consider if you live where it rains hard a lot. Leave it double or triple sealed, that's your best bet.

I agree. Anything PP makes will sell, regardless of whether it’s good or bad. It only matters who else is buying it.

My point is that TS was adamant that he doesn’t was PP to be defined by the Nautilus, but the Cubitus is basically a square Nautilus.

So, I would say he’s failed at creating something different, and the customers he’s going to attract are going to be the same customers that did or would buy a Nautilus/Aquanaut.

I've been thinking about the design of cubitus for a couple days and I believe the design could work if it were targeting the better sex by shrinking the case to 34-36mm because square watches look great on women. I think it would be awesome at a smaller size and instead of being an entry level PP but an alternative to the twenty four.

And for rest, use the similar design language but with a rectangular case and it could be different enough from nautilus and work as a unisex entry level watch.

^ In my opinion, there are too many great competitors at that size. You can't usually sell a women's watch for as much as a men's watch, and if it's going to be called a women's watch, then men won't wear that size even if it would otherwise fit them well.

But it is my humble opionion only.
