Icon20 Explorer 39mm VS Submariner (Non-Date) 40mm

Any opinion?
Which one should I go???
I currently have a Seamaster 300m (rubber version)

If I go Explorer, I would keep the Seamaster.
If I go Sub, I need to sell Seamaster to make it up the money.

Can’t go wrong with either…go with the one you like better.

I have both the Explorer and the Sub. While the Sub is VERY superior, I would never give up my SMP to fund a Sub. Unpopular opinion but resale value aside, the SMP is the better watch.

It’s likely you’d go for the Sub, then within a few months regret the loss of the Seamaster and still want the Explorer. I’d suggest pick the Explorer and if you still want the Submariner after, work towards acquiring it, thereby having all 3.

I think the Sub is the best watch out of three, That said, I’d prefer a two watch rotation that includes a diver over a single watch.

You must be referring to grey pricing since the 39 EXP I is no longer available. At current retail, the Exp 40 is only like 1400 bucks more than a 124060. I wouldn’t sell a watch I liked to close a delta that small.

I have the Seamaster 300m blue dial/blue Bezel on Rubber strap....love it, and prefer it over the Submariner. I also own the 39mm 214270 Mk II Explorer and love that. I think that having a sub and Exp. is too similar. I would keep the SMP and add the Exp.

I think the sub is probably a bit more watch than the Explorer (I own the Explorer and love it) however I would take Exp and Smp over just the sub if those were my only options. The correct answer of course is to have all 3 :)

I've owed both and pefer the 39mm. I think it wears better, I like the slimmer bracelet and the dial text layout. And I don't care at all about a 70 hour reserve vs a 40. I've also read that the older movement is simpler and thus easier to maintain but I'm no expert.

Tricky one. Depends how you feel about them. If you really want a sub, even having the other two probably isn’t going to do it for you.

The sensible answer is add the explorer - you keep a watch with a date - you have a sportier looking model on rubber and an explorer that can be casual or dressy.

But if you really want the sub, it’s not going to cut it. Left field option is you could also look at the Explorer II - you may be surprised and the 5 digits are pretty reasonably priced these days and could also let you keep the SMP.

I agree with this, although I think the SMP is a superior watch to the Sub. It’s probably just a personal thing as I find the SMP to conform to my wrist much better than the Sub and also enjoy it on the Omega rubber strap. The Sub’s clasp is huge in my opinion and not very comfortable. Both great watches, but since you’ve got a diver in the SMP I’d go for the Explorer for now.

kinda redundant to have 2 dive watches. I would get rid of the sub so I could have 2 watches from 2 different brands. If you change your mind a basic steel sub is not at all rare or hard to get on the grey market. Explorer 39 is discontinued so imo that's more reason to keep it.

I have both the Exp and the Sub. I wear the Sub more than the Exp. If I could only keep one it would be the Sub.

We are of a small group that find the SMP to be superior to the Sub. The Sub really does nothing for me.

Own both the SMP and now the Sub ND too, and noway would I suggest you to sell your SMP. It's an equally awesome watch if not better and you will miss it way too much, only to buy it again later.

If you can't have both for now, then I suggest go for the Explorer and get the Sub later.

For me, the no date sub is the best rolex ever made.

No boomer lens, amazing bezel, etc. A very reliable no frills flexible watch.

I have both. I think the Explorer wears more noticeably than the Sub due to the expansive dial. I would get the Sub.

I had 4 SMPs- Summer blue, green, all black, and regular blue. Bought a rolex submariner. All the SMPs are sold and I have a Hulk, Bluesey, Sub, and Daytona. Haven't missed the SMPs at all.

I have both Exp 1 and 12 series sub. Even side-by-side they do not look all that similar (to me anyway). Yes, black dial face is shared, but case/dial size, plus sub bezel create notable differences - again to me.

Explorer 39mm VS Submariner (Non-Date) 40mm

Submariner. And I have both a Submariner and a Seamaster, too. They complement each other well.
