I mean, most of their dials (sports watches in particular) are either glossy (lacquered) or sunburst. Why dont they have matte dials or textured dials? I know there are few exceptions perhaps with sea dweller dial (although dont think that is fully matte) or Ti YM. But overall it seems like for a large brand like rolex, which produces most luxury watches in the world, there is very limited variety.

I ask this because I was thinking about going a little understated and was thinkng about matte dials. E.g. i think it would be amazing if Rolex had some variations of steel sub and gmts in matte dials.

Wearing my 126613LN this evening (I always wear it) and with the shine/reflection on the crystal, I don't think I could tell if the dial was matt or gloss. I don't see a need for more variety / options in Rolex - they can't keep up with the demand they have so adding more models wouldn't seem like a smart business move. Nothing again matt or textured dials but I'm not feeling the need. I could easily find 3-4 additional existing models to buy if I had the coin.

Black and white will always be the epitome of Rolex history and legacy. I’ve had the green and blue dialed variants but always reverted back to more classic lines.

If you dig deep and explore all the sizes and variations of the DayDates and Datejusts, there are lots of different dials to choose from. The Sub and GMT are limited, but that’s fine with me.

Well they’re very conservative. That’s the major reason they are so popular - never go out of fashion.

That being said I’d hardly call the celebration dial, op red, pink, yellow of recent years understated. And don’t forget Daytona beach. They sometimes do the unexpected but generally keep it classic.

Seadweller matte, sub glossy. Meteorite has depth. Sunburst on some.

Don't fix it if it isn't broken.

If you'd notice, introduction of new dials (colors or patterns, not texture) is always a big major event for Rolex and the community.

Black Bays (possibly not all of them) have matte dials. they are nicely understated if that's what you are going for. I think waves on a Diver dial are naff but there is enough variety out there for everyone, regardless of what they prefer.

If you want dial variarity in Rolex, then you have to skip steel and go to pm - Pretty sure thats on purpose

I too think there's a lack of dial options, particularly colours, when it comes to the professional models like Submariner, GMT and Daytona.

Why only black or white for the SS versions? Would it be so hard to add one or to colours as an alternative? What was so wrong with the blue dial on the WG Submariner Date that Rolex had to replace it with black and not let it at least as an alternative?!

Why not a golden dial alternative for the TT YG and YG GMT models? It would look so great. Or a chocolate/sundust dial for the TT RG and RG GMT.

The PM Daytona only have the golden option, unless you opt for the PT one. It's either white, black or their offspring, silver/steel/sundust.

Really, Rolex adding a couple of colour options would not hurt at all.

Because Rolex wants to survive for the next 100+ years. The only innovation it has is to change the colour and material of dial and bezel. Rolex has to spread this innovation over several hundred years.
