Did the 116710LN change over the years?

All:

Is a 2007 black/black GMT identical to a 2019? I’m looking for one, and was planning to buy the newest I can find in my budget. Should I be concerned by an older model if it’s mint? Presuming I buy a mint 2007, what would be the cost for Rolex to service it?

Thanks in advance.

Paul.

Yes it changed. Dial font thickness changed - thin ----> thick. Movement was also improved later on as the early 3186's had issues with the hour jumper. The dial coronet also had slight variations in shape/size. If it's mint, price is right and factors in a service, I wouldn't hesitate. I prefer the later models in the run, however - Personal preference.

Rolex service will be in the 700-800 range.

Thanks! Is there a year I should look for specifically?

Clasp blades have a sand blasted look on earlier GMTs as opposed to polished look.

It all comes down to personal preference. If you're looking at an early minty/unpolished example and price is right, I'd go for it. RSC will address the hour jumper module at service (assuming it's never been serviced), so reliability is a non-issue in that regard. I gravitate towards the 2015-2019 models because of the thicker ROLEX text. Gives a bit more POP in my eyes. Can't go wrong any-which-way.

I have an early reference of the 116710LN with the green lume.

What changed in the ROLEX font and rehaut engravings?

Service took care of the known hour jumper issue, I think that was the same issue mine had.

Old hollow block letter engraved rehaut (top pic) vs. newer sandblasted rehaut lettering style (2015+, bottom)

I just used a loop to compare between both my GMT’s and confirm the LN is an early reference. The ROLEX font is definitely thinner on the dial and love the GREEN lume color.
The Renault engraving looks to be laser etched on these early references.

I feel these will become a collectors piece for these differences and that they were the first ceramic bezel models

Also, the earlier bracelets tapered in 4 links, not 3 like they do now. The round lume plots were also larger in the earlier versions. The shape and width of the lugs varied slightly throughout the years, although it seemed fairly random.
