I really want this as I consider the Submariner the most iconic Rolex.

Embarrassing. It’s a history book. Missing the facts defeats the purpose. I own the book myself. Should I be happy about getting a book that fails at its purpose?
I’m an editor. Fact-checking is absolutely a quality control process. |

Beyond that, could you please give some examples of the 'major mistakes' and factual inaccuracies that you refer to. I would appreciate this as it will help me learn. Thanks. |

I’ve enjoyed Nick’s cigar review/chat uploads on YouTube. Shame he seems to have stopped those now.
Perhaps this book should have been similarly light hearted in tone and maybe not aimed to be a definitive guide? Still, with the backing of Rolex it seems it could have been better. |

When the book gets things like basic dates, which Rolex ads got right, it's really damning. Or as the Perezcope review points out, getting the whole helium escape valve wrong. |

Either way, there won't be a test later, but I think I'll skip the book. The internet has alll the "facts" I need. |

Apparently there are tons of errors. Like watches with service dials/hands/bezels being represented as "original" and so on.

Maybe the WIS should "interview" this Foulkes guy, and during "questioning" they could give him electric shocks.

I received the Sub book a few days ago. I've not had a chance to actually look at it yet.

Thinking of ordering the book. Does it go into details about say the gilt era of 5513 and different dials and serial number in details as opposed to discussions on this forums and others?

I've finished reading the book, i found it very pleasant to go through all the pages.
I'm not the "i know all the references of each year" type. Maybe here and there, as some have mentioned, they got it wrong, and obviously it would have been better not to. For instance, i always knew the Submariner's original size to be 37 mm, but the book only mentions 38. When i finished the book, i felt with the impression that it could have had the Yacht Master a part of it, since it also covers the other maritime inspired models. Yacht Master is basically Rolex's offering of the Submariner with a less tool vibe, a bit more refinement look without the tweaks that a deep diver watch comes with. From this point of view, it would make more sense for the PM Submariner Date to be offered on OF only, and the PM Yacht Master on bracelet. All in all, regarding the comments that criticised this book to the point of naming it a fail or not worthy to buy, i do not agree with them. So i would like to point out a quote from the book itself which clearly states what this book is and it isn't: "These books are not intended to be a complete and exhaustive survey of every declension of every model (that would require many more pages and volumes), nor do they have any pretensions to omniscience: there are gaps still to be flled and mysteries yet to be elucidated. Instead, they are intended to enrich and enhance the way we experience a remarkable brand that has witnessed truly historic events and which has itself participated in the making of history." Happy lecture!

Haha the tailor is an extremely honest craftsman. I only know the backstory of that guy and his family because I have strong links to Asia myself.
Buying a suit is a drop in the bucket next to his world-renowned Patek, vintage Daytona, RM etc collection, lol. |
