ALS…just too good!

I freely admit that I am a Lange fan boy, but damn, they are a cut above! Unfortunately that means that I have a not inexpensive addiction.

So here’s the latest:

My 31 year old son is getting married in early November (first child to get married!). Throughout his life he and I have shared a lot of hobbies that have lead to some wonderful experiences together (cycling trips, playing music, attending concerts, cars etc). He also shares my love of watches. We both have Submariners and it gives us great joy to wear them together.

As my wife and I thought about a meaningful wedding gift for him, a watch immediately came to mind. We spent several days looking at a number of different pieces, but ultimately decided that it would mean more to him if we gave him one of my watches. We decided on my Lange 1 in pink gold. Gave it to him last weekend and the joy in his eyes would make any parent tear up!

Here are his first wrist shots:

He and his fiancée are heading to a friend’s wedding today (he’s wearing the watch) and he just texted me asking about the “appropriate” amount of power reserve. Makes me smile!

At the same time I’ve been going back and forth between adding either the 25th Anniversary Datograph in WG with the blue dial (was fortunate enough to be offered an allocation back in May) or the Platinum Datograph with the black dial. I had tried them both on but never back to back so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to strap both on at the Lange-sponsored Concours event two weeks ago in Newport. Being able feel the weight differences and see both pieces in natural sunlight — plus some strong guidance on how to make the decision from Tony De Haas (but that’s a whole other story!) — was incredibly helpful.

Here’s the outcome:

The platinum and the depth of that dial simply felt right and frankly in certain light looks like a deep blue. I’m over the moon! I suspect that my L1 QP and Zeitwerk Date will struggle for wrist time for a while!

Jason, congratulations on the upcoming wedding of your son, and the new addition to your collection. The Dato looks sharp on your wrist it will certainly complement your ZW Date and your L1QP. On another note, I was at the Audrain Newport Concours Event that Sunday as well but was wearing my ZW that day.

Without reservation, you made the right call on gifting your son a watch that has spent time on your wrist.

No watch ever made could have more value to him. Especially for a wedding. Every time he looks at it, he will be reminded of his past spent with you and his future spent with his new bride and family to come.

Beautiful new ALS Jason, it’s simply sublime.
