My Cartier Tank XL Auto works nicely with a suit and tie. This watch surprised me with how well it's made and how well it works. Excellent performance from its in-house caliber, crisp & precise operations via the crown, etc. I think it's a good pick at ~$5

I enjoy my Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control, but I don't think I would call it a dress watch. It has a nice blend of satin/polished surfaces on the case, and it's proportioned well at 40mm with a very think bezel, but I feel like it's more of a casual, every-day sort of watch.

Agree on the JLC Ultra Thin Moon. I've been wearing mine more often lately, even in not-so-dressy occasions. It can be dressed down nicely with different straps.

I second the Patek, but retired, never wear a suit, moved to Florida, never wear it, should. Go to JLC boutique. Reverso?

I think it's good to own one "dress" watch in a collection just for things like weddings or graduations or whatever where you do actually dress up. Having said that, my dress watch (DJ41) gets the least use of all my luxury watches. I work from home and the sports watches just work better for me 95% of the time. As others have said you can always get a cheaper dress watch and just wear it when you need to and not spend a fortune.

I bet you will end up buying one- there are simply too many options for you not to find one you like (unless you don't rectangular watches).

Be sure to try on multiple sizes in order to find the one that fits best. The Monofaces & Duofaces wear differently, even apart from the lug-to-lug measurements. Been said before, but a Duoface really is like having two different watches.

Also, with the JLC absolutely egregious recent price increases (30+%-ish on all pieces), the secondary market is probably the place to go.

There obviously is no "need" for a dress watch. But when i see collections of just stainless sport watches i think they are incomplete. I thought i would wear my Patek WT only when wearing a suit, but i find i wear it more and more, any time i wear a shirt with long sleeves. So sure not at the beach house, but dinners out with friends, absolutely.

Why not pick up a Reverso and call it a day. That’s what I did.

Just Announced: You could get this, should be a good strap monster, and on metal bracelet very formal (if you desire).

It chimes :)

I presumed that the handsome Reverso skeleton cost much more than it does.

Think of the watch as something on a strap. All watches go with any dress in today's world. To me the real difference in watches is can you swim with them.

Curious what is in your current collection?

Dress watch…?

I very much enjoy wearing a watch on a leather strap. Generally thinner and a bit smaller than a typical Rolex. Ok let’s call it a dress watch but I am wearing it casually with jeans etc.

If you don’t think it will get so much wrist time or you’re feeling a bit on the fence but want to peek on the other side, I would consider grand seiko time only offering. The finish and designs are superb.

Well, my wife and I share a few that are dressy, such as a typical Cartier Tank and Torsti Laine GG3 purple dial. Laine provides high customizations at, frankly, very reasonably ask. See his Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/laine_watches/?hl=en

As for the rest.... today is Halloween so here's a trick...

PS: One could say I'm an organic timekeeper. Does that count for anything? My lifelong dream is that one day I could become the drummer for Spinal Tap. If that ever happened, I would just die. :)
