Thoughts on a 116520 Daytona - CPO or No?

My local AD has a really nice 116520 Daytona that I can pick up for 24k as a CPO. Has box no papers - but as CPO you get new papers.

My thought on the 116520 is that it has the bracelet I like the most, good size, and I like the SS bezel and white face.

Any reason not to go with this gen? Any reason to spend less on a regular used non CPO one?

Thanks!

Honestly if a trusted seller here can source it for less I would go that route provided that the condition meets your standards.

Find something suitable on the grey market if possible.

The 116520s have been coming down in price on the secondary market. Nice examples can be had now in the high teens/low 20s. That's where I'd be looking.

Buyers' market today so you should expect to find a near-pristine example for average market price.

It all depends on the state of the watch.
CPO program does not equal a good condition watch. It may have been serviced and running fine but in the same time cosmetics can be a mess due to heavy handed polishers.

A pristine example regardless from who would be my preference, never mind if it needs a service or not

I'd hold out for the new 126500. The changes are that good.

Buying via cpo is doing it at an inflated price. As mentioned use a trusted reseller and pay less

This is the only realistic answer until CPO prices are more sensible. (If that ever happens)

I would get out and do some research on what a similar watch would cost you from one of our Trusted Sellers. DavidSW offers a one year warranty on his watches that are not covered by the manufactures warranty so that is half of what you get from CPO. It is about the condition and the seller for me. Once you have your information negotiate with the seller/sellers and get your best deal. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Thanks. What about this particular version of the Daytona? I know some like the next gen with the ceramic bezel but I like the subtle look of the SS bezel and the wearability.

I’ve had good luck with that AD but I too would check the price against trusted sellers. Sounds like you’ve already confirmed condition. If the price is comparatively in the ballpark there’s a lot to be said for the fresh service and the two-year Rolex warranty; you can walk out the door with your new watch and you can walk back in the door for service if there’s any issue. You pay a premium for CPO but if it’s below your pain threshold and within the range of trusted sellers and condition is good I’d say go for it.

Buy it from a trusted secondary dealer with papers for the same price if not a little cheaper. I wouldn't pay over 21k for a naked 116520. You are paying about a 3-5k premium on that as a CPO with no original card.

No CPO for me. 116520 should be $19-20k with box and papers.

I'm planning to go 116500 as I prefer the ceramic bezel.

Do you prefer the case specifically over 116500? I know OP is asking about 116520, but I am thinking about 116500 and 126500. I don't want to take over the thread so feel free to PM if you prefer.

If somehow you doing this pushes you up on the list for a waiting list piece then do it but otherwise I would go grey on this. Prices are going right down for this model.

If it gives you comfort, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a CPO watch

You can get that same watch for $19k and send it into RSC yourself and save several thousand for the exact same end result.

I wouldn’t. I haven’t liked the condition of most CPO watches I have handled. Over polished, missing links and over priced. And no matter what no original box and papers. That’s important to me and important on resale, most of the time.

I would favor trusted seller then send the watch in for RSC service.
You'll save money & have a watch with 2 year Rolex warranty.

Let us know what you decide.

I checked his website, and no thanks. Not worth paying that premium on some watches I am keen on getting. Might as well go direct Rolex CPO for that two-year international warranty.
