AP16202 or DD40 Platinum or Platona

Hey all, looking for some advice. I currently own and daily wear a steel AP16202 with blue dial. I’ve been debating about possibly trading it for a DD40 platinum or a platinum Daytona. The trade for the DD would cost approx me approx 10-12k out of pocket and the platona roughly 30k

I currently have the following watches in my collection.

PP 5712 RG
Omega Speedmaster
Daytona oyster white gold.
AP16202 (on the chopping block)

Just curious on some other members opinions.

Thank you.

Given your collection, I’d go DD if you love your current Daytona. If the Daytona is an easy release, I’d go PT Daytona. And yes, I’d make the trade to either of those two for that particular AP. For context…I am an AP RO fan as well.

you already have 2 chronos - speedy, whcih is the best chrono out there, and the daytona. i woudl go for DD, but i would also consider not doing anything and keeping your diverse collection intact. no need to trade the AP, save the money and invest elsewhere

I love AP but I'd go with the DD40 in this scenario but I'd look to add a different AP next

I would keep the jumbo, you will miss that bracelet and design. Take the delta in funds and buy a WG presidential instead of the platona - you already have an oyster bracelet anyways.

Why do you say Speedmaster is best chrono? I am considering getting one if we hit a big deal I’m working on. New white dial on steel bracelet…

It’s the best bang for buck WATCH on the market period in my opinion. Nothing else touches it in value and aesthetics for $6k on a brand new one grey, with full warranty. The history, the aesthetics, the see through case and/movement, nothing comes close.

However, after getting a Daytona, I think it’s a better watch. Now worth 4x more grey value? Definitely not, but the heart wants what the heart wants. The Speedy reads better though, Daytona is a touch cumbersome for quick glances.

While not quite as robust as the Rolex, I far and away Prefer the AP.

The only thing that might sway the choice is if they AP just didn’t fit you well for whatever reason?

Thanks for the response. That’s my reasoning(s) for it as well. Even if I could get a 🐼 for retail it would be almost twice as much.

I think I will get mine through AD though for the relationship.

An omega? Don’t even waste your time. A single speedy purchase equates to nothing on the totem pole and you’re just wasting thousands. My 2c. I’d never ever pay retail for Omega

Best place to get one grey NIB at that discount?

After two 1 1/2 links it fits perfectly. But it was a challenge to get a perfect fit on the AP

I have a white gold oyster flex Daytona. Comfiest watch I own.

I find it hard for self to own more the 4 watches. I like one full watch roll and one on the wrist.

The AP is one of my favourite watches which I do not own, so the 16202.

I'd keep the Jumbo. One of my all-time favorites.
I'd sell your other three before letting that AP go.

I hear you as to owning 4 watches max.

Why are you thinking about selling the 16202 when you wear it every day?

Personally I'd rather sell the 5712 as I much prefer the basic Nautilus in steel and even more so if your RG 5712 is the strap version.

While I have never come close to getting a Platona I thought about getting a platinum DD 40 a few times as I am lacking a full bracelet platinum watch. In the end I never did as I always felt I'd quickly go back to daily-ing my steel 5711, platinum be damned.

Everyone is different but I would absolutely rather wear the Platinum Daytona than the others mentioned. Platinum DD with ice blue dial and Roman’s would be next.

I just thought about overall value. Steel versus platinum for essentially the same money. I do love the jumbo that’s why I bought it originally. But I was thinking the DD gives me a similar look in a precious metal.

Lovely collection!
Hard choice between the DD or Platona, either way I’d keep the 16202 and trade the white gold Daytona instead
