I like to do things right, so I tried to get information about how to wear it properly. Unfortunately there are a lot of sources giving different advices.

There’s the advice to wear it snug, for these reasons:

1. Watch absorbs shocks better, which is good for the longevity of the movement.
2. Less risk of bumping the piece.
3. Properly wear it underneath the cuff, less risk of theft. Besides that, showing off is not necessarily a good thing.

The downside, throughout the day it can get too snug and could feel very uncomfortable..

There’s also advice to wear it at loose, where you have the ability to put 1 finger in between the wrist and the strap. The reason:

1. Comfort.
2. Comfort.

Downside, when it gets colder the watch could end up way to low on the wrist..

Interestingly I saw a guide book from Rolex itself, suggesting the amount of links to be taken out per wrist size per preferred fit, lose or snug. So I assume they’re ok with their watch’s being worn comfortably.

And than there’s all the online pictures of collectors and famous people wearing Patek. Including the Stern family. Some wear them lose, some snug..

So I get it, it partly comes to personal preference. I just don’t know what to prefer and I’m getting tired of going back and forth.

Anyway, here’s what it looks like on my wrist. Which fit would you chose, comfortable or snug?
I can relate to this so much, especially “I like to do things right” and I too looked up how other people wear their watches.

Over the years I settled on snug for straps and less snug for bracelets. I am happy to have found the perfect number of links setup for most of my watches. My 126710blro GMT though is not quite working out. In its current sizing, when I wake up in the morning it’s tight enough to leave a mark but the rest of the day it’s perfect. Moving out 1 micro adjustment slot makes it perfect in the morning but looser than what I like while in the office during the day. Have been contemplating removing a link and moving to the outer micro adjustment slot which would increase size my 1mm (I think -6mm +3.5mm +3.5mm) and I still have 5mm for micro adjustment when I am hot outside and need more. Also making it more aligned with my other watches. Ironically, my Royal Oak 15510 with no flexibility of on the go adjustment is more ideal in fitment to my wrist.

Loose enough not to crimp when moving wrist fully up or down but just tight enough just to prevent encroachment onto palm (hand down) or be able to move/flick off the topside of wrist. Usually this means having a few inches it can slide up and down forearm.

Haha, I have exactly the same with my 15510. It fits perfect!

Today I found the solution for my 5205. I drilled and a hole between the existing holes and now it fits well. It’s crazy how a few mm can make so much difference.

This! Pinky test always works for me. In general I prefer snug and this test does it for me…

Great advice across the board! Always a challenge determining right fit and flexibility across the wrist!
