question on service

My wife's 8 year old DJ is losing about 15-20 seconds a day. Not sure if this an issue of a simple regulation, or service needed. The local RSC in a jeweler here in the DC area quoted $800 and up for a basic service if needed and a 6-8 week timeframe.

Any other service options out there who you would recommend? I'm looking for a quicker turnaround time, and ideally a lesser charge.

Send it to Tom, owner of Ds Time Service in San Diego, CA. He will look at it give you a quote and turn it around Fast. In usually about a week and prices are very good.

I would search locally and avoid shipping the watch.

The option I suggest is a regulation while you wait. My watchmaker used to do that for me and maybe that local AD's watchmaker would do that. If their watchmaker is certified and has a parts/tools account then it will be done right.

See if that cancels out the s/d loss.

If it stays the same, then you could try calling around local shops. But saving maybe $200 is false economy methinks. That's because if even 1 part needs replacement, then you're back into the AD and out the costs to an alternative shop.

800 is a pretty typical charge for a Rolex service, no matter who does it as they know the market pricing. Check the qualifications of the shop doing the work though..... some may not be as honest as we might like and only strip to basic large parts and sonic clean or not actually replace worn parts.

A simple regulation should be less than a hundred if that is all that is needed.

Without hesitation - Rik Dietel. TimeCare, Inc. He's a trusted watchmaker, active on these forums (username: Rikki) and has been for years. Too many references and testimonials to name. He's a CW21 and holds a Rolex parts account. He's been servicing my watches going on two decades. Super guy, easy going, no BS and he turns stuff around lightning fast.

I would get on the phone with the RSC in Dallas. They will give you the basic information on getting the watch to them and evaluation. Service times, as reported here by several members, is good and the cost is going to be the same or close.
