Oysterdate 6694 crown/stem question

I have a 1962 Oysterdate. When I turn the crown ccw to set the time or date the stem will come all the way out of the watch. The stem does not appear broken and I can still wind the watch, but cannot set time or date. Can anyone tell me the reason. Is this common? Is it a hard fix, and what should I expect to pay to have it fixed?

Stem and crown are screw together, back to the old day watchmakers just tighten up by friction, but now manufactures use Loctite to secure it together.
Your crown just need to be screw tight to stem, but this has to be done when the stem is apart from the movement.
You need a watchmaker to do this right, and very few watchmaker will do it for you just tighten the crown, they will suggest you do other service as well. If you are lucky to find one will do it for you, about one hour labor charge, you need to figure out in your area.

Sounds more like the set screw is loose or broken that holds the stem in the movement again a watchmaker should be able to fix it rather quickly. Rikki

If you look on the movement close to where the stem goes in you will see a small screw head in the barrel bridge cover that is the set screw insert the stem make sure when all the way in it is winding then carefully tighten. It is a small thread so don't over tighten as it will break. If done correctly you should be able to detente the stem into time changing mode. Let me know Rikki
