my new Datejust II

One of the very first shippment here in AU.
Just bought it today.
Got calls from differents ADs today said that DJII arrived.
Here is the one I bought. I was about to buy the classic roman-black dial, until I saw this!
This is NEW dial Rolex just lunched this year. my one is WG. REf: 116334.
For me, YG version is toooo bling, and less sportier.
Much perfer WG version.

Sorry about the pics, I use cell phone camera.
The dial on this one is not black, more of matte dark grey.

Honestly, I wasnt a fan of this watch until I have one in my hand. it is just NICE.

Here are some tips for those who are will to have one:
It is 41mm, Rolex enlarged the size, yet, the thickness stays the same(middle case and back case), therefore the winding-crown stays the same. If Rolex made the case thicker like they did on Milgauss, then I bet they would enlarge the crown, like the crown we have on milgauss. According to this: the only draw back is the proportion.
I really like the proportion on 36mm DJ.
Anyway, this is the only draw back I can think of.

Rolex gave this watch a new movement:3136. Which uses paraflex and parachrom(owned and developed by Rolex). So far, only DDII and DJII use both Parafelx and Parachrom. DSSD and new TT sub only had their spring upgraded to parachrom, but not paraflex.

One more thing Ive noticed is that there are 1 more removeable link at 6 o'clock. For normal morden Oyester bracelet(those on 116200 116400 116710 etc), the shortest you can go on 6 o'clock is 4.1/2 But on DJII, there is one more removeable link which makes it 3.1/2 for shortest. Interesting!

Overall, it is a very nice watch. I give 9.5 out of 10.

Hope you enjoy the review.

i was at an AD in mykonos last week... they had a few datejust 2's.... i found the blue with romans not so easy to read.... the blue is kind of sparkling... hard to describe... my favorite combo was the ss with black stick dial... beautiful watch... the bracelet is very comfortable on the wrist... the store was very friendly... they offered me 15 percent off without me even asking... im sure i could have gotten between 20-25 percent off....

Just a question concerning the diameter of the crown: as far as I see, the diameter of the crown on the DJII is larger than the one of the DJ 36 mm (I mean the diameter, not the tickness).

Is it true ?

Thanks,

Engi

no, they are the same, same size, same thickness.

Rolex didnt enlarge the crwon due to the same thickness of the middle case(DJ and DJII). however I bet Rolex would enlarge the crown to Milgauss' if they enlarge the thickness of DJII.

Thanks a lot for your clarification !

What about you felling on that (I mean on the fact that the crown is the DJ one) ? As final result, based on your pic, the overall design and proportion seems OK to me.

TIA for your answer.

Ciao

Very nice, glad they decided to come out with the Roman dial. Tough choice between the Romans and Arabics - both beautiful.

Like I said, since the middle case stays the same(thickness), Rolex can not maxi the crown to milgauss' standard. If you take a look at the pic that DJII and milgauss that I post, it is easy to see that milgauss' case if way more thicker than DJII's. If Rolex did enlarge the crwon to milgauss', then the crown would be tooo big and tooo thick to the case.
what I really mean is that if Rolex enlarge the size according the proportion of DJ, that would be PERFECT. Sadly, Rolex only enlarge the size from 36 to 41, others stays the same.
Overall, it is not bad, the crown still matches the watch.
hope this answers your question.

I didn't ask actually JJ. I already bought my birthday present :)

But do you think it's a bit high? Maybe it was 7250? but I just can't remember.

By chance, what did you figure it would run?

Wow, that is a much better price.

Needless to say, it's a great watch. Had it next to my daytona and the size is excellent. I'm thinking it's the watch I'm gonna get my dad for his 60th next year.
