Nice report on a great watch but you should probably remove the word automatic. Thanks for sharing.

Still think this looks crap – but then beauty is in the eye of the beholder, etc, etc.
I can honestly say, with hand on heart, I’d take the Hublot Bodrum Blue and walk away with no regrets. No doubt I’ll get lynched now, for speaking my mind (again), but hey ho. |

Hublot Bodrum Blue It is a nice watch indeed. But honestly speaking I wouldn't even dare to compare those two watches beacuse of many obvious facts. Price range, complications, case material etc.. |

However, I've tried on that AP and it's a beast. Weighs a ton and is just sexy as all get out. |

I know.
Why do you think I referenced it? Quote:
The difference is one’s nice to look at, the other is a complete eyesore, with little more than its brand name going for it. Although the AP has a tourbillon, that’s not a complication I fawn over or get excited about. Aside from appreciating the micro-engineering involved, it’s a useless function on wristwatches, and more often than not, ruins a good looking watch – prime example being Moser’s. Of course, if you start pointing out Vianney Halter’s Deep Space Tourbillon, then you’re into quite a different argument, but still one which revolves around visual appeal. There are probably fifty watches I’d choose over this particular Audemars Piguet. I’m not a brand whore/snob, nor am I price lead – each watch that interests me, does so on the merit of its visual appeal. If I don’t like it, I don’t like it, and precious metal or complete joke of a price tag isn’t going to compensate for poor design. Why’s that, Paul? |

First, the price is not irrelevant as you wrote. There is no way to compare two products if one of them is 25 times more expensive than the other one imo. We can say they both are wrist watch and comparable but targetted completly different level of customer profiles and budgets. Than it shouldn't be fair to say "both are chronographs". There are big differences in between those 2 calibres and again not comparable. Meanwhile thanks a lot for reading the reviews. |

There're many APs I will never buy (this is one of them), but I won't take an Hublot over this watch...

hats off for admitting you prefer the hublot it confuses me that people here are intelligent enough to have earnt multiple APs yet they do not understand the concept of people having different opinions and attack others for preferring a different watch
if you said the hublot was the better piece then i would be on the disagreeing side too but not sure what is wrong with you preferring the hublot out of opinion

Sedar, there wasn’t a direct comparison being made between the AP and the Hublot (other brands are also available).
The price is totally irrelevant, since it has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on whether a product is aesthetically pleasing or not – just like the price of a bottle of wine will never dictate if it tastes good, your tastebuds will decide if that’s the case or not. Regarding the target market – that’s a red herring, unless you’re saying those with the funds capable to purchase the AP don’t have any taste and can therefore be sold any old tat based on exclusivity and price? Whilst both brands’ models have different movements, they still perform the same function – measuring lapsed time. As such they are very much comparable, and to suggest they aren’t because of price/movement differences is wholly myopic. In case there’s any confusion about why the AP is such a disaster, here are some of the reasons why:

Dear PJ S,
What I am trying to say is very clear but what you wrote in your last post is another discussion. In your first post you wrote "I’d take the Hublot Bodrum Blue and walk away with no regrets." This seems to me a "comparision". Than I said they are not comperable due to those reasons I wrote in my post. Regarding the wines I have the same idea. You cannot compare 2 bottle of wines if there is such a big differences between the prices. Their target markets are different. I always have the same idea regardless what is the product. It seems that I misunderstood since you wrote in your last post ; "there wasn’t a direct comparison being made between the AP and the Hublot" If you are not comparing the AP and Hublot than I have no words to say since it is your personal taste. "Whilst both brands’ models have different movements, they still perform the same function – measuring lapsed time. As such they are very much comparable, and to suggest they aren’t because of price/movement differences is wholly myopic." Casio Protrek has the same function. It is able to measure lapsed time too. AP can be a disater. I do not care. Some people likes and buy. It's their choice and I respect. That's all. Thank you. |

It seems we’ll have to agree to disagree on why things can/can’t be considered comparable, otherwise we’ll be locked in a circular argument.
For me, and I may be in the minority here, aesthetics trumps price tag all day long – no ifs, ands, or buts about it. Looking forward to future reviews of more attractive pieces – but please leave the Casios for others to address! |

Are they referring to the 50 piece carbon ROO peripheral rotor automatic tourbillon Chrono? A very different item. I didn't realise there was an automatic version of this precise watch. What is the reference please?
