My first Rolex purchase...

Over the past several weeks I have been reading these forums non-stop and have learned so so much so I wanted to reach out and say thank you. Before I came on here, I thought all I wanted was a watch, and had no idea what the hell "SEL" stood for, what a lug hole is, what in the world is a rehaut, why the serial number was important, and basically everything. A few members actually explained a lot to me privately and I really appreciate that too.

A few months ago my father gifted me his 30-year old stainless steel/gold Datejust as a promised graduate school graduation gift, but I wanted to always buy a watch of my own that I could wear more casually and also dress up. I wanted something that I could wear any day, with a suit, or with a sweater for the next 20-30 years and so on.

I wasn't ready to buy, but when you find exactly what you want, in ideal condition, at the right price it's hard to say no since they don't pop up everyday. Pulled the trigger and it came in this week. Took it to the NYC RSC on 5th ave to take out links (which was an awesome experience I can share more about on another post) and then wore it for the first time today on a perfect fall day in Central Park. Thanks so much everyone for all your help again--couldn't be happier!

(sorry for slightly lower res, wanted to have it not swallow the page)

Thanks again everyone for your help and all the useful information on here!

Must admit I’m not usually a fan of the 40 Polars, but that looks great on you. Good one!

This is the polar I’d grab if I had the free funds right now. This version being 40mm is just the right size in my opinion, the newer 42mm is just too big. However, I do really like the newer polar’s orange GMT hand styling.

I love the orange hand too--that's what brought me into the Explorer line. However I feel like sometimes the red hand gives off an orangey vibe. Maybe because of the lineage from the McQueen explorer/my imagination, but it wasn't worth it to go for the 42mm for me with smaller wrists just for the pure orange hand.

You and me both, like I said, I’m with you I prefer the 40.

Looks awesome, Dan! Absolutely love the Explorer with polar; it is very classic, sporty, and elegant all at once. Enjoy it!
