Wife got the Call but...

My wife has her eye on these two watches and can't decide which to choose. And to top it off, we got the call today for the black dial edition...

I know the group can't make the decision for her, but she asked me to post and collect the thoughts of the group...

So, which should it be...

Black Dial
Rose Dial

Thanks!

Does she have any other pieces? If it’s a daily the black dial might be a better one and done as it can go with more. That said, the sunburst dials with Roman markers are stunning in person so the rose dial still gets my vote.

Yes.
She has;
268655 - Yatchmaster 36 Rose gold, black dial on oysterflex
178273 - Datejust 31 stainless jubilee with white dial
116244 - Datejust 36 stainless oyster with diamond bezel and MOP dial

Based on that mix I strongly recommend black. Provides something different (for the related category).

My wife is dark haired and the black dial looks fantastic for a dressier night out. She also has MOP, white dial and silver dial watches, which are great but more “daytime” watches (not really, but simplifying).

Black one based on what she already owns

Given this collection…me personally, I’d go black dial

This. However, as a dude trying to pick something for a lady, pretty much take my answer and do the exact opposite.

Rose dial would be my choice out of the 2 for a lady. I also think it is more subtle with just the diamond bezel instead of diamonds on the dial as well.

A female colleague of mine has the rose-dial DJ - 'in the flesh', so to speak, it looks exceptionally elegant.

We think so too! But on the same breath, she was thinking its a dailywear rotating in with her Yatchmaster. See other reply I made for her Rolex collection. She also has a nice Jaeger Reverso.

From those live pics (not stock photos), I think the black dial looks much better.

I prefer the black dial for the contrast. I suspect the RG might be seen as slightly more feminine though.

Rose gold is a tad classier, more understated, and a little more contemporary.

Seen the rose dial without the diamond bezel in person. Must say it is a nice one

The black dial does seem to make the diamond bezel “pop” a little more in those photos. Thanks Matt for posting those!

Huge fan of the light dial! I like the black dial too but it makes the diamonds "pop" a little too much. My wife and I prefer understated watches. She can't go wrong with either option. Fantastic looking pieces.

Black with diamond is beautiful and it contrasts with the RG. I'd totally get that instead.

Asked wife, who owns the 36 green dial with diamond bezel version.
Says for her, Sundust all the way out of those two.

There WAS a Sundust dial, but it has been mostly discontinued (some references still offer it) and replaced by what Rolex calls the Rosé-colored dial. I have a 28mm TT Everose Datejust with the Sundust dial and I love it. I have never seen a Rosé-colored dial in person, but to have to choose between it and black, I would choose Rosë-colored.

That’s a tough choice, both options have their own appeal! The black dial is timeless and versatile, perfect for any occasion. It offers a classic, understated look that can be dressed up or down. On the other hand, the rose dial brings a unique warmth and elegance, giving off a more distinctive vibe. It could add a bit of flair to her collection, especially if she’s looking for something a little different.

It really depends on what she wants from the piece, timeless versatility or a standout, sophisticated statement. Either way, she can’t go wrong!

I've been looking to one day buy my mother a Rolex, and I'll have her try on Rolexes whenever we find ourselves having time to stop into a retailer. And one of the things she puts a lot of importance on is her skin tone in relation to the metals and dial colors. What looks good on her are chocolate dials, purple dials, and rose gold. Stainless steel only and silver dials would be the opposite spectrum. So I think whatever your wife feels looks best for her on her wrist is important. I picked the rose in this instance.
