Please advise: swap 114060 for 14060?

I’m considering a straight swap of my 114060 late model 2019 Sub for a 14060? Both are in excellent condition. I stand to lose maybe 1k in the deal from the price I paid a year ago for the 114060. Why do it? I have a 1996 Datejust that I’d like to pair to a Sub of the same era. Logic and reason tells me the 114060 is the better watch (ceramic bezel, better bracelet, newer movement etc) but my mind keeps wondering. Thoughts appreciated.

Unless you really, really, really have to have and are a huge fan of the 14060. Personally I would not trade the 114060 for it.
In fact, having a modern and a neo vintage is something I enjoy. Some days 5 digit, some days 6.

I would keep it as having 2 watches from 2 eras. As you grow your collection, you can add other models along the way.

If you have not tried it on. Do so first. If you have, then you should have your answer.

I strongly second that opinion.

I always preferred the 5 digits in pictures, side by side with the ceramic, it always looked better to me.
That was until I was able to try both and actually see them side by side, and I much preferred the ceramic, by a mile.
I still can’t explain why.

I’m not saying that will be your case, just don’t buy anything without looking at the real thing first.

Good luck.

No thanks on the giant lungs and the ceramic is not better, actually more likely to fail in any real distress and the bracelet not stronger as it’s held by the same pins. You will have a more balanced, more classically looking watch that is less blingy, go for it. Rolex changed the lugs back for a reason, to correct a mistake.

I wouldn't do that trade. If your sole reason was down to aesthetics then you might have a case. Also, you got the 114060 quite recently so losing cash on a sub would be another no no.

I had the 114060. I now have the 124060. Best of both worlds, closer to the 5 digit subs with the modern upgrades.

I have both and love both. But considering you started out with the ceramic sub, you may feel the 5 digit is cheaply built.

Do it. It's a hobby, might as well make it interesting. You can always trade back to 114060 or buy a 124060 down the road.

Fortunate to have both.

It’s your decision.

I’m sure you know that both have pros and cons.

But a 14060M is my weekly wearer.

They are very different watches.

I tried both on and overwhelmingly preferred the 114060. I love the super case and the ceramic bezel. I know some feel the very opposite though, but I'd keep the 114060.

Sorry, can't advise.. Too tough to choose.. I have both of those and my favorite is the one I'm wearing at the time.

In a split second. Much nicer proportions, dial, classic look. I predict at some point 5 digit models will be sought after and coveted and people will ask about the modern hunks of chunk: what were they thinking? It’s going to be like 1950s guitars and “improved” versions from the 70s. Just my 2c and I know that other people will call me crazy.

Personally I wouldn't do it.

Aesthetically the 14060 is more pleasing for me; but then the 114060 has all the upgrades.

I am one of those rare people that enjoys a more messy dial than a minimal one. I like the 4 lines of text on the 114060.

I would keep the 114060 and save up to purchase the 14060 later on if you find you still want it.

I would prefer to collect new, neo-vintage, and vintage. There's no rush, take your time. Tons of 14060 available at Tropical Watches (Jacek) or HQ Milton. You are always in time to find one, but you will never get back your 114060.

Please advise: swap 114060 for 14060?

14060 with a tritium dial!

Another option (funds permitting) is to add the 14060 and see how you like it vs your current ceramic model. If you decide you want to part with it, you probably could sell it for the same amount (or slightly less or perhaps slightly more)

Here is mine:

I have a bunch of modern models as well

I have had a 114060 and moved on from it for a 14060m. In my opinion the massive glidelock clasp and fatter lugs just didn’t do it for me with the 114060. Love the 5 digit.

I'd definitely trade. 5-digit case is SO much better looking. It's just a taste thing though.

I’d trade for the 124060. Has the body of the 5 digits and the upgrades of the 6 digit. I don’t put much stock in having my 2 rolexes from the same era.

Having a semi vintage and a newer Rolex is a better combination imo. Best of both worlds.
