Meeting manager for the first time, which watch?

Hi gang, question: I was hired during the pandemic and so I’ve never met my manager in person. I’m traveling to Miami to met him and others from my company for a team meeting. Which should I wear: my SD43 or OP41 black? I think he wears an Apple Watch from our Teams calls (he lives in Amsterdam). I have one of those, too, so was thinking I’ll just wear that lol. But I’ve always heard, never wear a more expensive watch than your boss :)

If your boss wears an Apple Watch as long as you’re not wearing full gold or iced out watch you’re good. They don’t notice.

I’d agree with this. Usually it takes a watch person to notice watches. Wear the OP to be safe and lower key if you want.

This is a most uninformed comment, people say this all too often.

You don’t know what people notice, they just don’t comment. The Apple Watch is my choice, it’s unassuming, it doesn’t make the kind of statement that ANY Rolex will make.

Agree with this.

I always thought nobody noticed that I mostly wore a sub at work. It wasn’t until work drinks events when people would comment ‘nice Rolex’ meaning they have noticed but not said anything until they felt brave enough!

I just wear whatever now. But if I was in the OP situation of new job and unfamiliar surroundings I would go low key. AW or possibly Tudor or Omega or something similar depending on your collection.

I’d personally go for the OP black. If he notices, he will probably also notice that it is a good understated choice that’s pretty work appropriate (assuming you have an office job, like in the finance sector). That said, if he wears an Apple Watch the possibility that he notices is small. Watch people notice, and watch people rarely choose apple watches as their go to choice each day.

Agreed. Don’t want to be too flashy. Polished good but flashy bad.

Yes, common sense. Make sure that the focus is only on your skills (soft and hard). You will have time to wear what you want (under your sleeve )

Doubt he’ll notice at all. That said, I’d wear the OP, it’s low key. Wear the watch don’t let it wear you.

Depends on the job and whether employees wear premium watches, drive fancy cars, etc etc.
Until you know what’s what, I would stay low key to keep the watch collection from negatively influencing potential raises or bonuses.
At least that’s how it was back in the days; but it is much better now in 2022, right?

My boss never wore any watch until meet me. Now he has five Rolexes and every time we talk about business, he rush to switch conversation about watches. I infected him with Rolex virus.

Black OP or Apple Watch - either should be fine in all circumstances!

Everyone knows Rolex=Expensive
Its up to you if you want your manager thinking you can afford a 4-5 figure watch
Personally, I'd avoid a Rolex all together

I would wear whatever you’d feel like wearing that day. None of my supervisors or ex managers from previous jobs have cared about watches and I’ve always worn my Rolexes to work. Nobody even cared what I wore which is great

It’s clearly on your mind/a worry, just wear the Apple Watch. What will you gain from the meeting by wearing a Rolex ?
