As a one and only....which would you?

Platinum Daytona vs Nautilus 5712/1A
Just curious what the Patek forum opinions would be on this? If you were deciding on a one and only, which would you choose and why?
My thoughts are ....
One is $75K MSRP, but market pricing is a bit less than retail, but on the rise lately.
The other sells at $41K MSRP, but sells for way above retail in the market…
What is everyone’s thoughts about this?
Too much hype on the PP? Still a better buy?

*Just thought provoking .....no I’m not doing this

One and only, Platona because of its versatility and ability to handle pool days with less concern.

But, don’t discount the platinum DD40 to trump them both as a one and only!!

You just can't give away that much weight in the ring and have a fighting chance.

I own both, and each has their place. Ceramic bezel on Platona and the relatively low cost of Rolex service/polish will have you more inclined to wear it.

The 5712 is delicate in comparison and I only wear for special occasions, the bezel is a scratch magnet and you’ll find your wrist awareness is very much on high alert.

Daytona for me because of practicality and usability. PP may be a "finer" piece but as an only, it would not work for me, too limiting.

Both out of my league, but the Platona would be the one!

Also noting the 5712 market pricing is coming down slowly. I wonder if it'll ever be the same market price as the Daytona. Both are slow price movers in opposite directions right now....from what I've seen.

Both versatile but Platona since it is more durable with the ceramic bezel.

I've never owned a PP (yet), but think Rolex is the king of everyday wearer in terms of durability, robustness, and flexibility. I like the 5712, and would enjoy owning it (not for 1.5-2x MSRP), but would think it 's too delicate and a bit "fancy" for some situations that I wouldn't think twice about wearing a pt. Daytona in.

Platona is great, all Daytonas are great, and so forth. Now, the comparison here is unfair. IMHO there is no watch on earth below the threshold of 100k which comes even close to the 5712. MP, PR, 240 micro-rotor, cool and unusual dial layout... No watch packs as much value and awesomeness as the 5712.

Since this is only as a thought provoking process then neither suits as a one and only - if I could only have one piece it would need to be a serious complication or real eye candy.

I own both and neither would be a one and only for me. As others have stated though, the Platona makes more sense in terms of robustness ,but its too heavy for everyday and all activities you might doing when wearing.
5712 wearability in terms of comfort and appearance is off the chart but once again the scratching of the bezel really is tough as an everyday piece.
Two great watches but many other choices as a daily I believe.

5712. No question.

Lighter, thinner, more comfortable, relatively understated.

5712 for its sheer comfort and pleasure to wear.

Platona waaayyyyy too heavy.

I much prefer the 116500 LN for everyday wear (than the platona)

I owned the Platona and it is highly durable and reliable. And will run forever before needing servicing. If those are qualities you prize, then that is your watch. If you like the dial layout and the feel of the 5712, and you want a watch that is currently trendy - please try one on - then go with that.

Depends on how you wear your watches.

I have Platona and 5711R.Both are my favourite models from their respective manufacturers.I generally wear the Platona for everyday use-I’m not precious with it at all and after nearly 4 years ownership there are a few small marks here and there but nothing serious-it’s still in pretty good condition. The 5711 I’m really precious with-I only wear it for going out/special occasions etc.It feels dainty-it’s very well made for sure but the 116506 is a much more substantial and rugged watch-the cerachrom bezel will forgive a little misuse whereas the brushed finish on the 5711R will show every mark.I feel that if I wear the 5711R all the time it won’t hold up as well as the Platona for marks and scratches.

Nautilus at retail or a ss or wg Daytona. The PT one is too heavy IMO.
