Consolidation - 5 for 1 Rolex Blowout

Well, I’ve done it—consolidated a chunk of my collection in a big 5-for-1 trade. Some highly sought-after pieces are now gone:

* Rolex Daytona White Dial (11 Series) 2021
* Rolex Daytona Black Dial (11 Series) 2018
* Rolex Sky-Dweller Blue Dial on Oyster 2023

Also part of the trade were my 2014 Patek Philippe 5980/1A-001 in stainless steel and the 2018 Bvlgari Endurer Chronosprint.

In return, I landed a recently serviced 2017 Patek Philippe 5980/1R-001 in rose gold in what was a straight, no-cash deal. I don’t mind sharing the numbers—the five watches were bought between 2018 and 2023, with a total outlay of $131K USD.

My tastes have shifted, and this big consolidation means my collection is much leaner now, which should make it easier to get back to a sensible rotation!

I’m still on my AD list for a Daytona WG Silver Dial on Oysterflex, a 12 series Daytona Black dial, and the recently released YG Sky Dweller on jubilee.

Shout out to Gary at Gluxe Jewelers in Miami for another hassle-free, top-notch trading experience! Highly recommend these guys for anyone in the market to consolidate. https://gluxejewelers.com

Congrats man!! Idk enough about Patek values to offer an opinion on the numbers side, but if you got to lean out your collection and acquire a piece you really want that you can enjoy in a more frequent rotation that’s a win in my book!

Beautiful watch you got for sure.
I just find it interesting you had to give up 2 modern Daytonas, Sky-Dweller, and Harry Winston Bvlgari to get the same watch you already had in stainless steel updated to rose gold…
That’s a big azz trade, congrats to getting what you wanted all the same!

The price differential between the SS and the Rose even at retail was double or thereabouts. But you're right, it’s the identical watch I had previously now in PM, much like a lot of other brands who charge a hefty premium for PM references.

Here’s an example for the 2024 Rolex Daytona pricing

Steel 15k
Rose Gold 44k
Platinum 77k

The PM multiple is actually higher with Rolex than it is with Patek

Further perspective is that the retail price of one patek 5980 in stainless steel was the equivalent of 3 x Rolex Daytona’s in Stainless Steel

Yes, and I’m right handed too. Not sure why but as a kid I started wearing my first timex on the right wrist and nobody ever corrected me. I tried to switch in my teens but to no avail, it just felt weird. So I stuck to the right and haven’t really had any issues overly damaging or scuffing

Nice timepiece, man! And, I'm there - I just traded out five watches to bring in one. Trying to refine the collection a little and have fewer, better watches.

Congrats!

What did you trade/get? Did you post about the adventure?

Congrats! I love yellow gold watches. And lefties! Both my husband and I are southpaws, though he wears his watch on his right wrist, and I wear mine on my left wrist. Beautiful piece! Wear the heck out of it.

This is great! I always admired your collection and it seems we have the same taste in watches. Whats left over is still quite the rotation. Good for you! This one looks amazing.
