Got my self in a sticky situation (116710ln or 116610ln))
First post.
I started to join watch forums and next thing I know I've committed to purchasing a 116610ln, sold privately, tomorrow. The guys is legit and we will check and pay for in person verification. Just then, a watch dealer brings up a 116710ln 2019 mint condition, box and papers for literally the same price. My expertise starts and finishes with 'whats that watch' to thread count 1000 for the technical specifications and understanding everything the web has to offer. From what I've seen and read, I can notably understand the difference. Visually, a layman should pick up the different brackets and their reflections, and the green additional hand. I'm wondering, with people in my situation, what seems more appropriate. I probably won't wear this daily, as wearing one in my line of work is not recommended. Yes for formal events, and nights out. I'm a bit show-y per se, and I don't mind the bling. I know once I've caught the reflection of something, and it was an black sub, but looking back, perhaps it was this GMT? Dumb and question, what would be able to glisten more? Is the polished really visually different in light then the brushed? I like the feeling of a classic indestructible watch originally which means the Sub, however I love the feeling of being a sub but different, which leads me to the GMT. I'm so torn. Oh I have never been into things like watches and cars, however me hitting mid 30 my personal tastes have changed. Please let me know your thoughts. I've got 4 hours. |

I chose a Sub. Minute counting is way more useful to me in the real world than second time zones. I use the minute bezels on Diver’s watches every other day.

Depends on the condition on each. I would go the gmt route but both are a close tie.

If all things are equal, condition/box/papers/warranty card the GMT is the more valuable and unique watch. I am a Submariner person but I would go with the GMT if it is right.

GMT all day. That GMT is discontinued (so is the sub but they make a new sub and there is no all-black GMT at the moment). Its go the polished center links for a little bling... and slightly more comfortable on the wrist than the sub.

If you're looking for something that is more flashy, wait and find a GMT on a jubilee. It's all about personal preference...do you think you'd use the minute timer more or the second time zone? I use my sub minute counter regularly and gravitate to divers because of this. Whatever works for you is the answer.

No brainer for me. Sub all day.
In my eyes the GMT bezel looks too busy

If price is the same, I'd go for the GMT.

Either is a superb watch. I would take the GMT over the Sub in this situation. You should do as you see fit.

I have both a Sub and GMT and the GMT just seems more "special", so it gets the most wrist time. Cheers on the acquisition and welcome to the forum!

Nope. Sub. I see the GMT fanboys have spoken. Collections start and end with a submariner. That particular GMT is ennui.
Doesn’t differentiate AMPM. |

Used to be when I was faced with the exact same choice back in 2012 that the cool kids watch was the Sub. On that basis, I chose the GMT. Today the tables have turned and the GMT is a special beast in the same vein as the Daytona whereas the Sub has taken on a quieter role in popular perception it seems. So today I’d take the Sub, even though I still have and love the 116710 I bought back then.

I went with the sub, but it sounds like you want something a little more flash, so the pcls may be better for you. Can’t go wrong with either tho! Let us know what you decide

How committed is "committed"?
Personally would go for the GMT as it's very similar to the Submariner visually but has GMT complication, is discontinued and from a professional dealer. |

One more vote for the GMT. It is a discontinued model and wears better than a sub on my wrist.

Having owned both, 116710LN hands DOWN. The black on black GMT II is the best modern GMT reference. Absolute beauty! Sold my 116610LN in favor of the GMT.

No brainer.
If you need a dual timer zone watch get the GMT. If you don't get the Sub.

From your post are you committed?
If the seller is ok with cancellation I would go with the GMT.

I have both - Go the GMT, especially if you will be wearing it during special occasions.
