Wow--the Deep Sea is quite a lot larger. I am surprised that the Deep Sea has what looks like "blue" colored lume in the photo--does this hold true in real life? Thanks for the comparison photos.

By the way, I believe the dweller is more useful as a weapon than a watch and should therefor be banned.

It is striking how much smaller the dial is on the DSSD than the Submariner. Even though the DSSD has the MAxi Dial which helps make it look larger it is in fact quite smaller than the Sub. It is probably smaller than the old Seadweller as well. That is a shame.

That is EXACTLY why I sold mine. I am looking at the new Submariner Ceramic to get just as much dial, with a bit less watch.

The Deep-Sea is 18mm thick from top of crystal to bottom of caseback. The Sub is 13mm.

You can see how domed the crystal is in the pictures. It is a HUGE watch for a Rolex! My wrists are small, I tried it on and it looked ridiculous on me. On the right person it would look great. The 904L steel Ring Lock inner ring really isn't that obtrusive to the design in person like some may have thought. The bezel's click spring is totally different than any other Sub, much much smoother and has a pleasing 'click' sound when it is rotated. It seems like a huge improvement. The platinum numbers aren't recessed into the bezel as much as the new GMT-II, they feel more flush against the ceramic.

The crown is gigantic as well, definitely larger than a Sub. The bracelet is exactly the same width as the Sub so it appears to be almost too small for how large the case is.

The adjustable clasp is very easy to use and will come in very handy making minor or major adjustments to the band length without even having to take the watch off!

Looking at the dial it reminds me of say, driving a 550 Maranello and a Ferrari version of a Pontiac Trans Am's "screaming chicken" emblazoned across the length of the hood. It is a Rolex Bart Simpson screaming, "Hey! Look at me!!!" It just lacks the elegance and class that the Sub continues to exude.

No doubt it will find plenty of wearers. There are a lot of huge, garish designs that some people choose to wear. But with the brutish height of the case, I haven't seen one wrist shot where the wearer could pull it off without the watch overshadowing the wrist and arm. Let's face it, most people don't have arms like Arnold and this watch is going to emphasize that to good effect.

Every time I see the SDDS I can't help but think to myself, they really screwed up when they got rid of the SD. I mean, they had a fantastic, wearable watch and they destroyed it. To those who can wear something so gigantic, enjoy, but Rolex lost my money on that one.

I would love to see some SD/SDDS comparison shots, that would be really interesting.

From the front it visually looks twice the thickness of the Sub.

IMO, there will be a lot of flipping in the coming months, when people with smaller wrists realise that it is too big for them.

Having said the above I would have liked it if they had have kept the same case thickness as the SD and just updated it with some of the features like the blue lume, dome crystal, maxi dial, bracelet and bezel. Would have been a much better classier watch.

Although many will like it, I just don't get it either. I particulary dislike the amount of text on the watch.
