I guess it’s the market rate for a brand new LV, not sure about a 2010 one, perhaps if it’s still stickered and new in the box and you really really really must have it…

I think you should do what you want to. Sounds like you’re going to buy it anyway, eventhough the responses here are suggesting not to…

really? A quick check among dealers in sg suggests there are tons in the market at 25-ish sgd..even the newer starbucks trades around there.

Being a 2010 watch, this should trade slightly lower I might add

Can’t put a price on friendship but I would think twice about helping if your friend is quoting you 27k.

here we go again...

Let me add a piece of advice; If you want a watch and (ironically) it actually means more to you than just some "££$$€€ object things" buy it now. Or follow Padi's advice and you will NEVER have the opportunity to buy this watch. If you change your mind down the road, it will likely only become more and more difficult and expensive to obtain.

This watch is discontinued, but the same thing applies for most of these hard to get watches still in production. If I listeded to Padi, I wouldn't own any watches that btw I absolutely love, because I love the watches not because I'm thinking of them as "££$$€€ object".

The irony is that this way of thinking is precisely what Padi is so critical of. This outlook is exactly the same thing is looking at watches as investments instead of items that you get to truly love and enjoy using.

Padi, why exactly is it so stupid to pay above retail? Cause you think the watch is worth exactly what the manufacture suggests or below? Cause you think there's no way the market will continue to rise or even hold? You're making statements, questioning intelligence and insulting people, based on what you perceive the watch is worth or what it will be worth in the future lol? Also known as investment evaluation, also known as "££$$€€ object thing".

If I asked you about a watch as an investment the thread would be closed down, but you're constantly adding your two cents regarding the watch as AN INVESTMENT.

Even if it's purely commentary on "artificial hype", you're relentlessly going around telling people how they should enjoy this hobby. You constantly reiterate how stupid and insane people are for paying above retail, telling people how horrible they are for perceiving a watch as "££$$€€ objects" all the while constantly injecting your opinion and perception of what the ££$$€€ valuation is of said "objects"

In case you need a reminder, many here actually just want to buy and enjoy watches just like you claim it should be. Personally speaking in the past 4 years that has meant almost always paying above retail! I have no regrets, despite being told I was a moron for buying a 116500 for $16.5k.

I hate to be a broken record here, but the negativity with you never ends. Frankly I don't know if there's a single thing about this hobby you actually enjoy anymore.

Amen!! I couldn’t have said it better myself. I’m surprised he didn’t take his daily stab at all of the idiots, including myself, that are so dumb to buy the overrated, never changed, ceramic Daytona. amazed how critical people are or maybe just jealous the people have the funds to buy whatever they want regardless of price. Maybe we should just all buy nothing but Tudors and Seiko…..

I personally despise feeding the grey and never have so far but I AM kicking myself for not pulling the trigger at that price. I was just starting out and didn’t know better.

While I agree with the gist of your post, it is important to remember that he comes from a much more innocent time when it comes to watch ownership and enjoyment.

I’m sure he enjoys sharing his knowledge of all things Rolex, and he (like some others here) are a living repositories of all things Rolex, be it history or the technical aspects.

He’s lamenting how things have changed, and I respect that because he clearly still loves the hobby and isn’t quitting just because he feels too good to be associated with any of the new entrants to the hobby.

Regardless of what one paid, or why one bought a Rolex, he’s happy to answer questions about Rolex and it’s watches. As long as it’s not about the dollar value of them.

What’s insidious are not even the people talking down prices out of envy, jealousy but out of unconscious self interest.

The ones trying to talk other people out of it because they realise that every new participant who pays the asking price is taking them further away from their own ownership desires.

Watch what happens when they get their watches however….

OP: do your friend a favour if you want, but I wouldn’t get it mixed up with buying a watch I may or may not want.

Perhaps treat it as a loan with the watch as collateral. Or just lend him the money outright if you’re close enough to him.

I would not dream of selling a watch to a good friend at anything above market value, it should be the opposite.

He my have his reasons, which of course you know better presumably, but I would not be sure I will take kindly to a friend of mine wanting to sell me something at above market value.
