My new Speedy, in two parts
Long story short, I couldn't find one of those fancy new '57 Speedmasters in any local AD to view and/or try on, so I finally just ordered it directly from Omega. It arrived quickly. Nice watch.
Hard to tell from the picture, but this is the blue face model.

The watch was actually a gift from the wife. We were waiting on a Submariner, but who knows when that will show up so she offered to pay for the Omega instead (roughly the same price).
Well, it's a bit more shiny than I expected and the blue didn't pop like I'd hope. She asked what I thought, and I said "I'd love it at $5K, not so sure I like it at $10K". So I sent in back. Fortunately Omega was very cool about it and accepted the return without any issues. That's why I didn't worry too much about buying it from their website, free shipping both ways. Well crap. That was a disappointment, and I still had the Speedy itch. I sold my last Speedmaster a few years ago, a sapphire sandwich that I really liked but it was just a smidgen too big for my tiny svelte-like wrists. I'd been looking at the discontinued Racing model in grey with yellow highlights, and just couldn't pull the trigger. But last week I found a very nice used one on Watchuseek and as soon as my return was approved, I sent him the money for the watch. I got it today, sized it, and put it on. I like the yellow highlights, it's not as monochrome as a typical Speedy and the 40mm size is perfect for me.

Interesting cross shop between those models. Was it just the shine you didn’t enjoy about the 57? I have been considering one lately. I have a few speedies already but given the 2 register lay out for a second time zone and the straight lugs I think the 57 is very interesting.
Anyway the yellow accents really pop on the model you ended up with. |

That and the lack of "pop" in the color of the face. And the price...

Congratulations. Good looking watch. With such a robust Omega market with pre-owned models I almost never buy new. The exception was the green dial Seamaster on release.
