The Rolex box

Hi guys, I recently bought an omega constellation and the box is oh so good!
Where as the boxes of my two rolexes are just plain and boring! I mean, I paid 5 times as much for my DD40 and I actually expect the box to be special too!
Anyone else think rolex should up their box game? At least for PM watches !!??

I don't think so. I think it's whether the company should invest some amount in presentation. For a watch that costs as much as a car, they can afford to put forth some amount of effort. I've always felt Panerai's boxes/presentation were the best of the best. Are you "buying the box"? No, but it's a nice touch and we're talking unnecessary luxury goods anyway. It's probably more a function of Rolex's arrogance than anything.

Omega has really stepped up their game. The Spectre box is amazing.

I agree. Otherwise buy the watch and have them stick it in a plastic shopping bag!!! Not exactly what many brands would like to project!!

I've seen loads of posts you've made insinuating that people who care about the boxes Rolex watches come in are in some way misguided?!

Most people will want/expect nice packaging when spending a significant sum of money on an item - not just watches!

Its maybe find for those for special editions but otherwise they are too much and they should re-focus on the watch. The rolex boxes not as exiting but for them is the content that matters. I think the best way forward for both Rolex and Omega is perhaps something in between.

Panerai, omega, JLC and most others do a better job with their boxes. It's also sad that Rolex have the same boxes (only differ in size, by a small bit) for their entire line up.

I noticed my Panerai box is way nicer than my rolex boxes and my Panerai cost way less.

I think part of it is that the box/papers were not as important in the past whereas now they make your watch worth more in today's market. Some say the box/papers increase the value by $1,000 or more. In the past, most people wore the new watch out and could care less about the box and the warranty was 12months, not the 3-4 years today. Thus people keep their boxes and want something a little higher quality.

I bought my POti without a box or papers and a Panerai 24 the same way. I'd rather save the $1000.

I don't think the OP is implying that the box influenced his buying decision, but rather appreciative that Omega cared about their overall perception of the brand to include a nicer than normal box.

Meaning? You wear the box?
what would be the resale value of an Omega compared to a Rolex in 5 years?
I guess you can always sell your Omega at a higher price and tell them " It has a nice box"..:)

IMO, my Rolexes with the boxes and tags, come just fine. i don't expect anyting more than the significance, that I am WEARING a ROLEX...
and people that I show my DSSD to, doesn't care if it came in a nice box

I do expect my box to be special, meaning I want to put my two expensive Rolex in a box worthy of it.
I do not buy my watches to resale it.
And I don't care what people think of the box when I show them my DD40 with baguettes, I care for what I think because I paid for the watch and not the people. When I'm spending almost 40000 $ on a watch I expect it to do a better job at everything than my other 7500$ watch.

I like the Rolex boxes, simple, to the point, none of the Omega frills, etc.
Do I like to be pampered with a nice box? Sure, why not?

But I like Rolex style. They know they have a superior watch, that withstands the test of time. To them, a box is a box. It does nothing to enhance the function or value of their models. This is what I believe in my opinion.
And so, they do very little in regards to presentation. They DO not need to enhance the presentation of their Submariners box to make people think they are buying MORE for their dollars. Because Rolex KNOWS that the people who BUY Rolex KNOW that they are getting the value of their dollars, irregardless of the box.

No one in this thread said anything about the quality of rolex or the quality of Omega watches, yet that's what you felt needed to be brought up.

The only thing that this thread brought up was the nice quality of the new Omega boxes which are so much better than the old ones. Also better than the Rolex boxes.

I am coming from the perspective and a point that Rolex as a brand did NOT need to "spruce" up their boxes as presentation box, a point exactly made to the reference from the OP posting.

I am NOT making an excuse for Rolex. I have no credentials to make such statements or excuses.

A 5k Omega box is nicer than 50k Rolex box ( assumed hypothetical as above). "Nicer" is a relative term and subjective, in my opinion.
What exactly is a definition of " Nice" ? better clothing? better color on the box? I am comparing the boxes of my Omega SM 300C ( yes, not the constell box) and the box my DSSD came in. They both look fine to me. They both look " Nice" to me.
Like i said, its MY opinion only,. the Rolex boxes are fine as it is. if I had the money to buy a Platona, and it came in the same box as my DSSD, then so?
It is what it is. I actually favor some sparcity. MY opinion only.

Actually, going BEYOND a box, what Omega does when you buy a Speedy pro from an AD, where they actually give you a free trip to NASA, etc.

Better storage for papers, tags, extra links? Not too much to ask I assume!
Different box for PM watches? Not necessarily fancy with wood leather etc. but different from that of an explorer!
Better hinges and and locking front? Which is not a luxury, but practical n useful bit.

The problem with Rolex and why this whole box issue is mass production and the huge demand for their watches globally! They cannot afford to spend their time on making different kinds of boxes. they mass produce their boxes, all the same across the line (only differ in size) put their watches in them and export. It's like iPhones and iPads that come in small and to-the-point packaging so that they can ship more number of units per consignment. It's acceptable for something like electronics but not my Swiss made watch by Rolex.
In my humble opinion, as a Rolex loyalist, existing customer and future customer as well, it is for their own good that they should be competitive in today's market.
Gone are the days of conservative purchases, more and more people can buy expensive things today, a lot of people are buying AP, Patek, Vacheron overlooking Rolex completely as a mass manufacturer.

A nice well made box is not a must, but it is good to have. These are luxury items after all. I too think Rolex boxes are relatively poorly made. It's just larger size for the PM metal models.

My Omega DSOTM comes with a gorgeous piano finish black box with red accents. It's absolutely gorgeous.

We all know box is no where as important as the watch itself. Still, Rolex should seriously consider upgrading its packaging. It is indeed a pleasure to see a Rolex sits in a luxury box that matches its elegance
