Which GRAND SEIKO Are You Wearing Today?
Let's see those Grand Seikos!
Here's a relatively new acquisition ... a limited edition GS SBGK005. Loving the textured "Mount Iwate" blue dial and the old-school feel. Light and thin (11.6mm) but with great wrist presence, even at 39mm. Curved, retro-inspired case, domed crystal. Beautiful watch that's dressy, but with some sporty flair too, especially on a more casual strap. (Comes originally on a blue gloss gator strap.) Manual wind but with a three-day power reserve tracked on the little meter at 3 o'clock. Quirky but balanced well on the dial with the seconds sub-dial at 9 o'clock. Nice! |

My favorite from the “Seasons” series, the “fall” SGBH273 with the blue textured dial, and the gold seconds hand designed to represent the moon against a night sky. So Japanese. (Took the photo just after I got it, but I am wearing it today!)

Not today’s photo but this is what I’m wearing. It’s the SBGA231 with a Red Rock canvas strap.

This today. Bought new in Hiroshima in January 2018, and still gets a lot more wear than any of my Rolex watches,

Thanks. If I were to recycle one of favorite photos of my “Blizzard “, I’d go with this one. |

Yes, in the real world the texture isn't super-noticeable - as you usually don't see it in low lighting indoors, it seems flat; while if the lighting is too high you don't see it either - too many reflections despite the anti-reflective coating underneath the glass.
But if you're outside with lots of light, and then part of the watch face goes into shadow (so there's no glare in the way) you can see the texture, it makes it a bit more interesting. I really like the clear and simple design, and the way the seconds hand lands on the markers perfectly without any shake. And of course quartz means you can just put it on and go whenever. It's slow by about 2 seconds over the last 6 months (not seconds per day, seconds per 6 months)! |
