Why two-tone Daytonas seem to be cheaper?

Hi there.

So, after a search, not so quick, neither so profound, I could see that the two-tone Daytonas are more expensive from teh AD ( obviously - precious metal), however on second hand market, they are even at level of retail price or sometimes even below. Any idea why?

Do you have to wait less for them?
Aesthetically not so appealing?

TIA and cheers.

Actually I like the two-tone with racing blue dial. A lot.

Simply a supply and demand issue
They are available quite quickly from an AD while a steel Daytona certainly isn’t!
In my opinion they are much better value when buying pre owned and also I prefer the look to a stainless steel

Because it’s less popular. TT is polarizing. It makes the watch more busy and less harmonious. It also demands a premium against steel, and makes one year for PM.

So basically it’s a bit of a compromise instead of an elevation.

I’ve worn a 126613LB for a while but ultimately it annoyed me more than anything, and now the only TT I can wear is my vintage 17013.

Usually, people go for stainless steel because they are the easiest to buy because they are cheapest...it is the entrance ticket, sort to speak....

However, if people want to buy precious gold watches, they will usually get it in full-gold version because to show prowess of their social class or wealth

two-tone is somewhat neither stainless(sporty) nor flashy(compared to full-gold version) so there is less demand for these watches

My AD occasionally has TT Daytonas on display to buy. That's why. The demand is considerably less. I think it looks particularly nice in TT.

That’s way, way more stunning than a say a Panda. I’ve no preference on SS vs TT generally. Full yellow gold is the worst look for me. Definitely old & tacky looking.

Always thought that was one of the coolest Daytonas they made. I think the Daytona looks great in TT.

I hadn’t seen that Daytona combo before. I agree, TT works well there. Beautiful piece.

Well.... Due to this thread and these pictures above I just traded in my 116500 Black dail ceramic "boring" (Godzilla) and now have a 116503 with a blue arabic racing dial incoming. Should get it the end of the week.... I really need to stay off this forum, not good for the bank account...

I agree with the above comments, TT is in less demand. I would not buy any TT model.

I always preferred TT over SS, all of my first 3 Rolexes are TT (TT YM, TT Datejust & TT Chnr).

My preference: PM > TT > SS

The demand for the SS models are higher than the two tones.

Example, the 16520 is selling for 26k + or - while the 16523 is selling for 17k + or -. In the vintage markets.

And with the recent 2 SS Paul Newman's selling at Sotheby's last week. I think the SS hype has spiked.

Just my thoughts. Chris

SS traded above MSRP for PM at one point … nuts as that may be.

Is a "Bluesy" Sub easier to get at AD, then a SS? They seem quite popular. OP, that TT blue face is great looking. My brother-in-law got a TT white face Daytona at a local AD about 3 years ago with no spend history. it's just OK to me ( too fancy maybe). I like that blue face though.

To find out simply how much easier each model it is to get, compare the grey prices with ad prices. The more the markup, the harder to get. In this case, tt sub is easier to get than ss

For me personally, I prefer tt over ss because of the variety of the dials they offer. However once I managed to go full pm, I never considered a tt again

Because two tone reminds me of the 80s and people who wanted a PM watch but couldn't swing it.

I just hate TT
All SS or all PM only for me.

As you can see from the responses to your thread, it's a matter of personal preference. IMO, the hype around SS Daytona's is irrational when compared to their prices on the secondary market. In addition, I'd never be caught dead with full YG watch as it's too flashy. Again, YMMV.

Yes, it is really.
Anyway, it is crazy to pay for such overpriced SS watches. So, hopefully one day I will be able to get a TT Daytona then. I hope more people think like you and it will actually go even below market price

TT models in every model are like this. It’s been that way for over a decade. TT Rolex models were significantly more popular in the 1980’s-1990’s.

It's merely a matter of supply and demand acquiring them from an authorized dealer is relatively quick, unlike a steel Daytona.

Depends. I'm wearing my TT SD43 right now. Took me two years from my AD, and this with a decent spend.
