If Patek were to reissue this 3670 today

the waiting list will be all the way to the moon. Maybe in a different dial colour. Coming to a lucky owner at NY Phillips auction. 37mm.

My absolute favorite.

A friend and I often takes turns kicking each other …
In one of its earlier NY auctions it failed to sell!!!!!
The estimate was ~150k.

But as far as more being made, the dial color is perfect

My only consolation, I tell myself the movement isn’t shock protected so who wants it anyway:)

Such a great watch.
Great backstory , legendary movement. And such a unique dial.

Maybe just a little over asking…depends how we count the zero

One of the better pics I have come across on the web.

One detail I have not been able to find is the thickness of this watch.
I expect it is about 10.5-10.7mm based on the movement thickness of 5.95mm but nothing definitive on the web. Somewhat thicker than my 5940 at 8.5mm

I saw someone listed the case height at 10.15mm in another watch forum. It doesn't look too thick from the pictures given it houses a chronograph movement.

What a watch

Agree with you regarding expectations for a manual wind chrono movement

I suspect that measurement may be a best guess?

5950 27-525 movement is 5.25mm for a total watch thickness of 10.15mm
(This info is from pateks press release) https://static.patek.com/pdf/pressre...e_Ref_5950.pdf

3670 13-130 movement is 5.95mm
(this info is generic for the movement from Patek but not necessarily specific to the 3670)
https://www.watchprosite.com/patek-p...71688.5136048/

The 3670 movement is a bit thicker, maybe there is a variation in the case thickness?

Not a deal breaker but thicker than optimal for me

And yes what a watch!

When I first heard the name of the new piece being released was "Cubitus", I was hoping it would be something like the 3670. I think that would have broken the Patek universe in exactly the opposite way the actual release did.

I like the way the movement fills the case!

Some write up from Christie's on the movement:
"The story of reference 3670A’s creation is a fascinating one. It started when, in 1996, 16 carefully stored and unused historic caliber 13’’’130 chronograph movements were discovered on the 5th floor of Patek Philippe’s Rue du Rhone boutique. Originally made in 1948 and regulated back in 1955, Philippe Stern immediately realized that these movements could be used to create a very special new model, so exclusive it could only be offered to his most loyal clients. The movements, with serial numbers in the 869’2** range were fully recommissioned in Patek’s workshops in readiness for their new incarnation. Another unique and interesting aspect of these historic movements is that because the movements were made in the mid-20th century, they bear the Geneva Seal mark that Patek Philippe had stopped using for their usual modern production after it was superseded by the familiar PP seal. In 2011, the completely restored movements were cased in classic stainless steel cushion-shaped cases that successfully evoke Patek Philippe’s iconic chronographs of the early 20th century."

I wish I have something like that in my drawer

Is this the same case as the 5950A?

Cushion case like 5940 and 5950 but not exactly the same. 5950 is a single pusher and the movement is a bit thinner than the 3670.

one of the early Henry Graves commission piece also used the cushion case. It was a minute repeater and significantly smaller at 24mm

Didn’t they just sell one of these in May? Odd that 2/16 came to market with 7 months?

I believe you are correct.
I recall at least 4 separate auctions since it was released. I have been wondering if it were the same piece being resold.

I wont believe there could be so many collectors out of 16 who would want to sell this piece

1 being sold ok but just 2 would be over the top?

Digging into the web a bit

The original 130 pieces were snap back and some info indicates they were 11mm thick.

The next use of this movement was in the 1463, those had a thicker screw down caseback and shown as 14mm thick.

Finally the 5070 was the last chrono before the Patek in house movement. However It used the lemania movement. Those have a thickness of 11.6mm including the screw down caseback.

Good learning. What a fascinating reference.

You raise a good point as to whether this is the same watch getting resold

A pleasure, Seems like so few opportunities over the past years to discuss watch geek stuff vs investment values.

Thanks for sparking the discussion.
