Modern 321 Movement

Forgive my ignorance, but does Omega use modern lubricants and oils in the modern 321 movements (e.g., EW 321)?

Know someone who has a safe queen EW 321 that has been in a bank safe. Wondering if that could pose an issue with the 321 movement, given Watch has been sitting idle.

I would be surprised if they didn't, I'm confident you're safe with it in a safe

Thanks for feedback. Interested because he might sell his safe queen to me! All these EW 321s on TRF are tempting.

No answer on the lubricants, but for watches I wear rarely, I still wind them fully & run the chrono/spin through the date wheel/etc. every few months or so just to keep things moving.

I do the same

I had an exchange with “Archer” over on the Omega forums About this topic and the 321 specially. What he said to me is “wind it when you wear it”

Archer is an Omega watchmaker, and highly regarded from what I gather

Everybody uses modern lubricants. Specs for lube at key points is about viscosity and its ability to stay where put, not if it is modern or not. Modern isn't really a characteristic of lubricants.

Thanks for the clarification! The concern is idle watches not being good for the movement. Sounds like ok for the watch and just worse for the owner - wear and enjoy ‘em!

A few days ago I asked an Omega watchmaker this question, his reply was that modern lubricants are used in the Ed White.

Might anyone know how they handle ‘everyday exposure’ to magnetism? It is obviously far more susceptible than a modern day Omega Master Chronometer movement that is (largely) impervious to everyday magnetic fields, but can someone wear it without undue concerns? I would assume the answer is yes as the movement (and others like it) were used for decades before the newfangled silicon this and non-magnetic that came along, but I still want to ask. I travel a lot and I’ve found myself wearing every watch apart from my 321 for flights.

Yes, it did.

As I wrote, I am fully cognizant that such movements (by Omega and other manufactures) served for decades.

The reasons behind my question are: 1. Considering how long an issue with a 321 would take to resolve, I have probably babied it more than any other watch I have; 2. while magnetism is not a big issue, I would rather not use my demagnetizer on that particular watch, and 3. I have other timepieces that I am significantly more comfortable flying with.

With that said, if another owner of a 321 has experience traveling with a modern EW, I would highly appreciate any helpful views.
