Aussie Newb seeks Sub ;)

Hi Gents,

Pleased to make your acquaintance.

It's taken me quite some time to make it here. As a kid I have a love for the Tags of the day (80s)

but could never afford one and then by the time I could I didn't like the available Tag styles. I got into my first nice piece when I was 22 with a Longines Opposition white face that I still have. I loved it to bits (especially the bracelet) but gradually grew away from it through my 20s.

Until a recent trip to Europe I'd completely forgotten about watches when I stumbled across a Breitling Navitimer. Something about it really grabbed me and all of a sudden I was like a kid lusting after watches again!

I resisted the temptation to jump in right away but as soon as I got home the bug kicked in big time. Since then I've been through a few including a vintage Omega 300 and fore-filling my childhood tag dream with a vintage 844/4 Heuer .

My current daily

Their have been half a dozen more and they've all been beautiful watches but frankly I'm done jumping from watch to watch. I want one watch to wear all the time and to keep until I'm an old man. What watch would you choose for this? My criteria was timeless design, unquestionable reputation and a piece made to stand the test of time. Unsurprisingly my decision was the Sub :)

Using this amazing forum I've done my back ground work and now have a basic understanding of the history of the Submariner and the primary variations in the models. I'm not looking for vintage with this piece but it also doesn't have to be brand new. After looking through the features of the new Sub 116610LN I've decided that's the one for me. New or used

Now comes the difficult part. It seems that buying this piece in Australia is going to require a fair degree of ankle grabbing. I'm not cheap but I demand value and I can see that's going to be hard to achieve locally. If someone out there has a local dealer they can recommend for a piece in reasonably good condition I'd be interested. I prefer to buy local always but I'm also comfortable with going offshore if needed. Time frame is end of the month I'd like to place an order

Any help will be greatly appreciated

Best Regards
Rob

Welcome.

What State are you in, Australia is a big country, with a relatively small population.

There are trusted sellers.
If the price sounds too good to be true......it probably is.
Generally you get what you pay for but buy the seller before you buy the watch.
Yes people do get scammed on the internet every day.

Thanks for the welcome guys
I'm up in Queensland. Sorry if I gave the impression I'm after the cheapest 116610LN on the market, that's not true. Aussie prices are much higher at ADs to the rest of the world and paying 11-12k for the same product you guys get for 9 doesn't sit well with me. I'm willing to fly anywhere in Australia to collect

I noticed DavidSW has one going for 7k so am I right in assuming I could land this with taxes in Australia for under 8k?

I'd send David a PM. I have had plenty of watches from him
