Yacht

Just recently started my search for my first Rolex (SS Sub).

Went and visited another AD down the road today to try my luck, and got put on the waiting list, was told 1-6 months. While I was there, he almost sold me on this beauty... The platinum dial is gorgeous!

Am i making the right decision holding out for the Sub?? Part of me wants to go grab this and call it a day. Don’t know how much of that is a lack of patience though

If you actually want it, go for it. If you will still want the Sub after buying this, wait for the Sub, do not settle. I would personally take the YM, but I have a soft spot for it.

(Also, I believe you mean platinum *bezel)

If you prefer the YM to the Sub, get the YM. The one pictured is a beauty. Not for me but it's easy to see why it is so likeable.

Keep looking as subs are been delivered with short to no wait.
The YM is such a gorgeous piece. Love the blue dial.

Wait it out rather than get the quick fix.

I have a similar situation, originally tried to get a Sub over 2.5 years ago never happened, so got my name down at a few AD’s now for an SD43 or Deepsea (large wrist) but been offered a Sky Dweller which has never been on my radar, but definitely got me tempted so going Friday to try on to either love or get the temptation out of my system, plus it’s an AD I’ve not visited before so if not for me at least we’ve had a face to face meeting, so easy to be seduced by what’s available.

Yacht

Frankly there are so many upsides for the Yachtmaster that to me it is the perfect Rolex sports watch. Almost all subs look the same. Yachtmasters are much more individualistic. That's just my POV; it's your watch. Do as you will. I've had Subs and Sea Dwellers but prefer the YM. If you need the additional water depth that the Sub provides than hold out. Here's my YachtMaster.

I'm one of the few on this forum that prefers the YM over the sub. I prefer the smoother and more fluid case profile.

+1 and as someone else stated, if you are not diving you may be happier with the YM

Staying on the boat? Get the YM.

Going for a dive? Get the Sub.

Seriously though, try both and see what “sings” to you.

The YM is perfect for a 1 watch collection. If you have a nice dress watch already (or intend to add one) hold out for the sub imo. Both SS dial combos are awesome but the blue just tips it for me.

YM is one of the most beautiful watches. I have TT rose gold with chocolate dial, I love it very much.

The first rule of Rolex buying is buy the Rolex you want. Don't get talked into buying something else just because you may have to wait longer to obtain.

For a first Rolex I would suggest sticking with a Sub.

I would prefer the Yachtmaster to any 6 digit Sub... but that's just me. Go for what you really want.

To each their own. For me, it’s the YM all day. To me, they stand out from a sea of black divers.

Polish (err, grind) out those shiny center links and it’s better than a sub date.

My 0.02
Have small collection compared to some for me the narrow lugs on YM compared to maxi case in 6 digit sub is a winner and the blue dial is just gorgeous
Love the way the case is shaped to follow natural curve of the wrist rather than the slab that is a Sub case
PCLs I can take or leave my only criticism is easylink not glidelock clasp
That said the Sub is the quintessential Rolex and if OP “only” intends to have one reference (how many Of us said that ) I suggest he holds on

I much prefer the Yachtmaster over the supercase Submariners

The one on your wrist is a beauty and I'd pick it all day long over a new Submariner. But if it is a Submariner you want, only that will scratch the itch, and if you don't enjoy the Submariner after purchase, you're on the right side of an easy trade to make it right after the fact.

The YM is a MUCH nicer watch and you get the upgraded 3235 to boot! I went YM > Sub and do not regret it. If you are actually diving >100M then still don't get the sub.... get the deep sea dweller...

YM is nice but too shiny. I'm partial to the sub regardless of its "ubiquitous-ness"
Don't settle OP

It's not a platinum dial, but you know that now, right?

It's also a lot more expensive than the Sub, and has worse resale (should that matter to you).

I say wait a couple of days and go back. If it still sings to you, then sure, buy it. Why not? It's only money. Life is short.

As others have noted, Submariners are being delivered. Be patient.

It looks like you have a pretty big wrist. I think the submariner would fit you better, the yacht Master looks a bit small for you
