Should I get the Daytona with the old bracelet or wait for the one with the new bracelet.

Do you guys think between old bracelet and the new bracelet there is a big difference in quality.

I will be happy to know what you think about it.

Personally it doesn't make any difference to me

My watch has the new rolex bracelet since it's the GMT II C and now the same clasp can be found on the daytona model but i cant see anything wrong with the old one

I do prefer the new clasp but as i said cant see what's wrong with the old one

Personally I think this type of thing is really funny...just like the GMT's 3185 vs. 3186.

Come on...!

So for $725 price increase your Daytona have the same clasp as the GMT IIC (not bracelet gentlemen). Frankly, big deal.

Hey george...if you are willing to wait for the new clasp..then go for it (but if you are going to be lucky) but here is your chance to have one already...I prefer the new style but the price is totally a lot on the new one...But if your sure you can get the new one then go for the new one...But your choice its hard to pass up to one that is hard to find and its almost in your hands!!!

Mine had the older clasp. Fine piece. Maybe the GMT-IIC clasp in nicer but doubt the older one would detract from your enjoyment.

I've owned the GMT-II C and the SS Daytona (early M-series) and while the clasp differences are minimal, I prefer the Daytona's.

The clasp on the Daytona feels more secure and robust but is also more elegant and simple. The inner folding elements are sculpted and tapered unlike those in the GMT II-C which have a very thin middle portion and fat edges. These same elements are nicely engraved on the wrist side on the Daytona and appear printed/cheaply scored on the GMT II-C away from the wrist.

When closed on the wrist, the Daytona clasp is more comfortable and is smaller and more proportional than the longer one on the GMT II-C.

The Daytona (Z & early M series) clasp has a pressure fit round snap closure with no moving parts to fail. It closes/opens with an audible snap. Some complained that this design made it hard to open and is likely why the newer GMT II-C clasp has a spring loaded mechanism to make it easier to open. Springs can fail and get lost. The Daytona clasp is not hard to open. I've seen 4 year old do it.

Both have a "swing-out" or "flip-lock" adjustment feature, but neither have the "GLIDELOCK" mechanism found on the SDDS clasp.

A lot of these things involve personal preference and almost everyone would agree that the differences are much much fewer than the similarities. It's hard to see why it would be worth waiting and paying about 10% more for the GMT II-C style on the new Daytona when the current Daytona clasp is arguably better. However, you may soon have no choice as Rolex appears to be standardizing on the GMT II-C clasp. This might make the current Daytona clasp something of a rarity in a short time.

George, I think the older bracelet is better. And, if you're getting the older one for the $9200 that they're supposed to be selling and not the new $9975 for the new bracelet... it should be a no brainer. Considering you live in Northern Jersey... I would suggest jump on it before someone else in Northern Jersey picks it up. Who knows when the next SS Daytona will come available.

Just buy it and love it....

I have the Glidelock on my Deepsea. I vote for waiting. The Glidelock is a major step forward in comfort and adjustability in my opinion.

Its just the clasp not the entire band. I like the old clasp. I think I am going to swap the clasp with my GMTII just to try it out...

The Daytonas are crawling out of the woodwork, ADs' are suddenly calling up people who were low priority on the "lists" - how come there isnt a similar outpouring of the GV and the Deep Sea ? I know the first thought to our mind is the economy which is now making the Daytona more easily available - but could there be more to it ?

$725 is for the new clasp.. I purchased a white face Daytona (old clasp) last week and I just got my refund today of $725 plus tax without me asking. My rep actually called to tell me.

The design change was not done because of some flaw with the old design. I think it was done by Rolex more as a design consolidation between models giving the sport line a more standardized look.

I got this afternoon the White Daytona with the old Clasp M series and also got a TT Datejust for my wife, the first rolex watch for her. Made a decision to get the Daytona because I have the GMT IIc and I believe both are great bracelets and good quality too. The Lady TT Datejust roman numerals because it is about time she gets some after my 7 Rolex collection watches.

I will post pictures later this week since I'm getting surgery done tomorrow and I will be back home saturday so wish me good luck.
