The 126500LN Daytona outer steel bezel ring debate?

Why did Rolex add the outer steel bezel ring to the new Daytona?

You have to change something when revamping a model. Do you like the steel edge on the bezel? Some do and some don’t.

Hi, no I'm personally not a fan of the new outer steel bezel ring. To me it detracts from the visual impact established by the dark sub-dial rings and I feel the 116500LN bezel was simple perfection.

I don’t think it was to make it look retro, but rather to resemble the Daytona as it was pre-2013. I think it was the right choice. It now looks less like the Zenith El Primero - at least until Zenith adds a bezel ring to their watches too.

Steve, I think you’re missing an option. To make the details more refined. I always thought the bezel edge on the Daytona looked too soft. I like the edge captured by the metal edge.

I’m with you 100%.

It elevates the aesthetics IMO

It makes sense to add the ring to differentiate it from the previous model. I still don't know how I feel about it.

I don’t mind the steel ring on bezel but think I do prefer the thicker sub dials for more contrast.

You can't argue with the dark outer ring on the sub-dials and that synchronicity with the plain dark ceramic bezel.

This is the Truth! It really ties the whole look together for me.

The option you didn’t give is “just to make it different.”
The incremental changes to to the 12 series are not enough to make me seek one. Like you Steve, my 116500 is just fine.

Maybe it helps protect ceramic from getting damage?

The 126500LN Daytona outer steel bezel ring debate?

Actually, the metal ring is a ding/dent magnet. It suddenly makes the new 126500 show wear like the 116520 and 16520.

Ask any Daytona buyer … what’s the first thing you look at to determine wear? It’s the bezel edge. It shows all dents and dings and polishing.

I agree with this, and I don’t mind? Here’s my unpolished 116520, bezel scratches and all.

There is no documented or known history of the ceramic bezel cracking. Rolex weren't fixing something that wasn't broken.

The Daytona 116500LN was not a bezel insert, it was a bezel so it was unlike for a Submariner for instance where the bezel was always steel with a ceramic bezel insert.

There are a lot of excuses one can create for the change, but in the end no change was required because nothing was broken on the 116500LN.

The steel outer ring is an unnecessary embellishment that's an embarrassment!!

This is just one view...

The 116500LN will go down as the greatest Rolex Daytona in modern history and is set to be the greatest all time Daytona.

Wholeheartedly agree on the bold statement above :-)

But I never got used to the boat shaped hour markers on the 116500LN and much prefer the current = Zenith Daytona style markers. The Daytona I really want is yet to come.

I made a similar statement on the day of the 12 Daytona release. I said what I thought out loud, completely uncensored and the thread after 55,900 views still has legs. It’s great every likes what they do and hopefully gets to own their ideal Daytona.

I have the new model and for sure it does add a little shine to the watch but honestly after a while you don't really pay too much attention to it.

then why all daytona with ceramic bezel released with just the ceramic bezel, and continue to do so for so many years? did rolex just realized they forget to put on the steel ring?
