Rolex Day-Date Rising In Value?

I read this article in Robb- Report that the Day-Date is very quickly rising in value. Is this legit? Anyone else know anything about this? Thank You!

Would doubt it but to many today Rolex watches are just ££$$€€ objects and little more.

In fairness, they are just “very expensive” objects

And to answer the question the answer I think is no :) apart from retail price of course that’s always going up

Not sure if that is true but Everything seems to be going up and costing more, not just watches. I take most of the articles like that as fluff stories appealing to their reader base. Only time will tell...

Costing more, or moving up to keep up with inflation is a far cry from "increasing in value".

This sounds about right.
And what goes up in price can also go down

They are specifically talking about the DD36.
Which had been relatively cheap compared to the Daytona andGMTs

However the do not mention which references, so it's hard to tell if that includes all of them.
I am guessing that it is the Neo vintage ones that had a sapphire crystal and a double quick set. Can still find them in very clean shape they look new and they were quite reasonable in comparison.

In general all of the Rolex watches are rising in value but how rapidly I'm not sure. as always supply and demand drives the value or the cost. However if you buy from an authorized dealer as I understand it Rolex May raise the prices once a year.

The retail price of the 36mm DD has sure shot up over the years. Seems like they were 15K new for a long time. Now unadorned they are 36K or more.

They do look like they are up, I thought they were still at $12k for a 18238, had the opportunity to buy one last month for $15k and thought it was a little too high, seems like they are asking $17-18K now.

No shot. I bought a baguette rose gold day date this year. Paid almost 50k with tax. If I sold it I’d be looking at close to a 10k loss. Day dates are definitely not investment pieces that’s for sure.

It’s true. It’s only happening on 36mm day dates, mostly older ones.

But more like the price is higher if you are trying to get in the market, if you own one and want to sell it it will be a little easier but it doesn’t mean you will get much more for it. But the vintage dealers are getting a lot more for it. It is partially due to the increase in gold value. It is also due to the vintage gold watch craze. Piaget demand is up. Patek ellipse demand is up. Cartier just following its continuous rise.

The 36mm day dates that were selling for $9k with no bracelet and up to $13 with are up. The special stone dials are also up dramatically.

You could use the Chrono24 app and add specific references to your watch collection to track their values. I don't believe the dollar amounts are entirely accurate but the at least it gives you an idea in terms of up or down.

My DD 40 has definitely dropped but I don't care since I never plan on selling it. I also bought at a discount before the craziness. I did notice my DD36 seems to have to ticked up a bit, in list price at least.

118238 is down according to chrono24. The article lost credibility when referring to Rolex by “Rollie” in the first sentence.
