Navitimer 8 B01

Well here we are. I had higher hopes for the breitling reboot. No slide rule? No 8 day PR but call it the 8 anyways?

I feel like this is a shame. Make a 41mm in the 806 vein and cut the date. Don’t use fake lume or patina. Throw in a modern touch and you’re done.

My assessment is that it’s an "8" because it refers back to or is inspired by watches or instruments made by the Breitling Huit Aviation department. This military or commercial only black-dialled 734 made during or after WWII is an example.

Personally, I would have liked to have seen the Navitimer 8 with a smooth bezel. Perhaps the 41mm versions will bring something like that.

Correct but according to Hodinkee the 8 referred to the 8 day power reserve the watches came with at the time.

Not watches, but cockpit instruments.

I like the simpler look that Breitling introduced with this watch but I don't get why they call it a Navitimer. I know there have been watches in Breitling's past that carry the Navitimer name that don't look like the current Navis but I think they could have gone with something else.

I was curious to see what bracelet they put on it and am pretty disappointed with the pictures that Kern has put on his instagram. I'd rather see them using something similar to the current Navi bracelet with a brushed finish rather than the professional bracelet that they use on the Avenger, Colt, and professional line. Even a mesh bracelet would have looked nicer.

Underwhelmed. And why 43mm? When will Breitling start to reduce some of these crazy big models.

It's too bad. I have a soft spot in my heart for Breitling (my very first mechanical watch was a Colt Automatic) and I really wanted to be excited about this release, but it's just so disappointing.

I feel the same way. One of my first “expensive” watches was a Colt but this is simply garbage IMO. Boring, and not in the least attractive.

Yeah I agree. Looks like they ripped off iwc with the dials and threw a fugazi oyster bracelet on some of them

At a first glance, it kinda looks like Hamilton, and I do not mean it in a bad way as I like some of their models. Is the bezel rotating? It definitely does not carry the Navitimer spirit of the modern era, why name it the same?

check the date window. Tomorrow its the 9

that my working theory

I dont hate the watch. Its just plain and bland but sometimes thats OK. Its for the guy who goes to the ice-cream store and orders vanilla, no toppings.

Why does everyone complain about it being 43mm, I don't love the watch but it being 43mm is not the reason! If you are looking for a smaller size they make several watches in 38mm!

I will say on a positive note the watch now carries a 100m WR rating. Unfortunately at the expense of the slide rule.

I don't think these are replacing the current Navitimers with the slide rules. One of the bigger Breitling collectors over on Breitling Source has said that Kern said a new Navi 01 will be released at Basel.

That’s good news, but seriously, I wish they’d just find a solid direction and stick to it...

There's some great info posted over on Breitling Soruce which will help explain the Navi 8 series and also settle the rumor of the current Navis with slide rules being discontinued which isn't true.

http://breitlingsource.com/phpBB2/vi...hp?f=1&t=64047

It's worth a read. One thing to note, there is confirmation the current Navi 01 models will be revamped at Basel.

IMO, if there is one/any model that does NOT need revamping, it’s the Navi. What are they doing

The only hint I was given is that if you like the wings/anchor logo is that you should buy now. I'm guessing they'll just go with the similar logo that is on the Navi 8 models but the rest of the watch will stay the same.
