5811G or 5740G
Hi all,
I have been offered either a 5811G or 5740G from my AD. I currently have a 5712/1A as my only Nautilus. 5811 Pros: 41mm (instead of 40mm for my 5712) No complications (therefore different from my 5712) 5811 Cons: 5740 Pros: Complications (Note I already have a perpetual calendar PP dress watch) I also understand that the 5740 is the thinnest PC in Patek lineup which is special 5740 Cons: Same size as my 5712 (it might be nice to have the 41mm) My current PP lineup is as follows: 5204R-011 5370P-011 5968A-001 5712/1A-001 Any advice would be appreciated! Based on your collection which contains complications, I'd go with the 5811

That is a wonderful dilemma to have- congratulations!!!!! I have the 5740- though I love the 5740 and it is great- I wish I had the more simple looking less busy dial of the 5811 I think. Don’t think you can go wrong as I think they are both great! You will love the warmth of the white gold on whichever you choose- keep us posted on what you decide :-)

I would go with the 5811 if you can only get one. It is the best movement to me for a sports watch and has a sweep seconds hand.

Good point about the movement…. I believe both the 5740 and 5712 both have the 240 movement as a base…. Therefore the 5811 would get another “pro” check mark! Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

You have a very interesting collection right now, huge congratz.
Regarding your question, I would have first suggested to get the 5740G instead of the 5712 (thinness) but the steel vs gold also has its advantage for usual everyday activities. I like the idea of having a "simpler" Nautilus, especially with such blue dial. However, the 5740G is more interesting to me (QP, thinness for complication). With a 5712/1A already, I think I would enjoy a 5740G more and "might" feel the 5811G's blue dial might not be fulfilling enough on the long run (to me). |

Here is a photo of my current PP lineup…. I figured a photo alongside Ichiran’s might help… thanks for the feedback so far everyone!

You have an amazing collection and I think 5811G will compliment it really well. Also, I've seen / tried on both the 5740 and 5811 IRL, and 5811 felt more special.

Wow congrats on fantastic collection of sport and dressy Pateks!
As a fellow Canadian were you able to go through the AD route or did u go grey? My experience here with AD's is that they don't have the supply to open their doors to new customers so I went grey with my first Patek. |

I am fortunate to have family abroad so I don’t need to deal with the Canadian ADs. You are correct that supply is limited in Canada and there are not many opportunities to start a relationship. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I'd go 5740 w/o any doubt.
The main reason is that I have not warmed up to 5811/1G. The upsizing is a con from my perspective, I don't like the execution of the date (frame and font), and I prefer the stealthy dial color of 5711/12. Also prefer steel over WG for a simple sports watch. Another consideration is that they'll probably make 5811 for another decade including in steel whereas I doubt 5740 will be made many more years. The 240 movement may well be on its way out after four decades of production and with the introduction of a new micro rotor movement some time ago. |

I would normally opt for the 5740, but seeing your collection has changed my mind. I think a 5811 would be a better compliment to your collection.

5811. It would be nice to have something a little more simple with your collection I think!

You can go with either and still end up with a winner! There’s no wrong decision in this head to head

This is easy: Get the 5740 and trade your 5712 for a 5711 (blue or white or green) or 3700.

Really love the 5740 but I need the 120m WR.
