Daytona oysterflex white gold, dealer scratched
My AD finally got a white gold Daytona oysterflex in with a silver face. Beautiful watch. I bough the watch and had them adjust the band. It was too small on my wrist, even when using the biggest opening on the clasp.
So the watch repair guy said he had new straps and would put a longer one on. Well he did and scratched the lug deep. Than didn't tell anyone. I was looking at the watch and every time I would start to look he would start talking more. Finally got rid of him and I told my sales gal he put a scratch in it. She's like I will have him fix it. He takes the polisher to it and really screwed it up. He rounded off the square edges and over polished it. They gave me all my money back and I sadly didn't get the watch. They told me they are hard to get but they are gonna try though Rolex. I wonder how Rolex gets the job done without messing stuff up |

Not an uncommon scenario with strap changing on this model.

At least there were no screws for them to dog up. Sorry.

Several of these same issues coming up lately. It’s too bad that this fairly easy strap change is getting screwed up by “trained” watchmaker/professionals

Sorry to hear your bad experience with AD.
At least they fully refunded you and try to make good again with a new piece. |

Exactly, they were 100 percent good about the whole deal and very friendly. In fact, I emailed them last night saying so. And to tell them I was all in if they get another one!

There seems to be quite a few oysterflex swap battle scars... Is it really that tricky?

Beginning to become a common story on this model .
If Rolex included a proper length rubber strap on this model ,it wouldnt have been a problem . |

Ding ding ding! Winner Winner chicken dinner. You sir are 100 percent correct! Just simply make the band underneath with the little recesses to get the job done easy!

I tried pinching the rubber to expose where a person would have to get to, and it seemed tight. I am not sure if they have a little device to squeeze it to do the work. But the rubber seemed tight lug to lug.

Sorry to hear that. I had a similar thing happen with my speedy pro, with a strap change after owning it 2 days. The “tech” apparently went in from the top, and you can see a fork scratch, in the top of the lug. However I told them I was not happy, but did not have them polish it. I mean two days later at dinner with my kids of all places put a good scuff in the other lug. I’m not sure why they don’t tape the lugs before attempting these things, especially with a Daytona! |

I said to the nice sales woman that exact same thing. I told her it would be nice if they made lug tape. Maybe a 3M type of product with a little pull tab on one one end for releasing it. But something that could be stuck down to each lug before the work is done. |

The everose for me is the perfect version of the ym due to the cerachrom bezel. If I were you what I’d do is go to the ad and if it fits without a strap change take it. If not grab yourself a different ym37. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Why doesn’t Rolex change the design by adding notches to the lugs on the oysterflex. It seems to be a regular occurrence with AD scratching gold lugs.

Common occurrence. Very hard to do properly without cutouts to expose the spring bars on the OF. Easy design change, but until then, expect more casualties, especially with the softness of gold. I've had two PM OF watches.
If in doubt on the difficulty, just try to figure out how you get to the spring bars without applying force on the lugs with your finger tips. |

Seems like the easiest design change would be simply to make the OF bracelet with built-in quick-release pins (spring-bars). (Am I missing something?)
I am awaiting my 116519 (with a 50% deposit left and they told me "could be a year- or more), & I will definitely need a smaller strap. After reading all these terrible experiences the past months, I'll make them tape the lugs and do the change in front of me- or do it myself. |

It's very easy to do, there is literally a movie on MyRolex on how to do it.... sales staff are just too stressed and or lazy to look at it and practice it a few times.
You take a watchmakers knife, insert the blade to catch the spring bar collar and twist it downward to release the springbar and then push it out. No marks... IT does take some practice but once you learn the technique its super easy to do. |

Sorry to hear about all the trouble but at least you got your $$$ back. It drives me crazy when when someone makes a careless mistake and then doesn’t own up to it right away.
