I unsticked my sd4k... 7years later

Bought my bnib 116600 in late 2017, officially to get a financial reserve... But i knew that i would wear it.
Done, sold Kermit, and proudly present my new, just unsticked, 116600 - the most beautiful sport Rolex ever made :

I owned a 1665 Sea-Dweller but it never quite worked on my wrist. I really want a 116600, but not without trying it on, first. But the odds seem against finding one in a store, which stinks. So I'll just enjoy it in photos.

My first SD was a 16600 M that I bought new.
I sold it, still regret it till this day.
I bought a 116600 within a few weeks of their release.
Still one of my favorite watches!
I just got it back from it's first service at Dallas RSC (no polish)
Here it is with my first Rolex a 16220. I rarely wear the 16220 but will never sell it as it was my first. They went to the Dallas Spa together.

Have to agree Kat just cannot understand why buy any watch if you are not going to wear it straight away, but Rolex watches have become just ££$$€€ objects to some.

Both my wife and myself wear our watches, we have no thought that they are anything but watches.

However, we are very aware that if we fell on hard times we could sell our Rolex watches and this would allow us to keep our heads above water. So in that respect our small Rolex collection could be construed as a financial reserve.

Buy and keep unworn to hand it on the next generation I can understand but what don't understand is buying a watch, not wearing it for many many years only to then open it and wear it, this to me seems to undermine the logic of keeping it unworn, why not just enjoy it from day1?

Maybe his plan was to not wear it from the start and he then changed his mind.

The beauty is, we don't need to understand what others choose to do with their belongings / money.

I know someone who buys rare comics. Some he hasn't turned a single page on.

Lets face it, his plan would have worked. If he had needed to sell the watch he would have made a good return so his initial plan was a success. My guess, he didn't need the cash so decided to wear and enjoy it. A change from his original plan, which was sound logic given his potential return on the initial investment.

Congrats! I think the SD4K is the best looking ceramic Sub/ SD. The slimmer lugs compared to SubC, the fully graduated bezel and matte dial make it very unique.

I bought it because i liked it AND because it could double in price in a few years. Which it did. That is the beauty with FREEDOM (haters, do you know what it is ? Free market, liberty ?) : you can buy something just to hold it. Sell it. Or like i did, finally wear it. Or change your mind inbetween. If you cannot buy a Rolex, it is because offer does not meet demand. So market adapts. Price increases. Not my fault ! I'm on the Padi/Kat side in general here but if you were to wait for an auspicious number, so to say, wouldn't opening your 43 at 43 work?

Back in the day, the SD43 was also called SD50, being the 50th anniversary Sea-Dweller as we all know. But you're right, I could have celebrated my 43rd with the SD43, 100%.

Thing is I wanted to keep it new for a while. I had several other watches worn on rotation, including a Speedy 44 bought the same year. I added other significant watches afterward (TT Sub, VC) and didn’t feel the immediate need to take the SD out of the safe, other than to contemplate it, wind it up it every 3 months and check out its accuracy.

This watch felt special to me from day 1, and I gradually came to realise I could wait till the age of 50 before I start wearing it. Mark the milestone properly and give the watch more significance to me.

So there you go, bought on my 43rd to celebrate my 50th !

Really you should have bought a Pelagos LHD and SD50 that year, since both were essentially tributes to the 50th anniversary of the Sea-Dweller, then opened one and kept the other for now, haha.
