Rolex 116718 GMT-II green dial
It all started with the August 2006 issue of Watchtime magazine with the review of Rolex’s new GMT-II, reference 116718. It was a groundbreaking with a solid link bracelet, the new clasp incorporating the EZ-link, the Maxi case, and ceramic bezel. It scored 94 points and was the highest rating that I had seen. The only negative noted was the green anniversary dial (it is was also available with a black dial). The green dial is unique as it has more of a jade color to the green and often looks black in certain lighting. It would be the hallmark for changes to the sport models and across the lineup.
I found a new in box, full set in 2010 during the financial crisis from my go-to source at a price that is about half of the current market. It is the watch that I have held the longest. I have only seen one other in the wild at Pebble Beach’s Car Week last year. I feel it is a little underappreciated as a true transition model. |
