I had talked about converting my SS DJ to a TT Datejust. I wound up purchasing another DJ in Gold but for some reason I decided to sell parts and combine others to create what you see

The band is plated aftermarket but the gold bezel, dial, hands, and winding crown are all Genuine Rolex. This is a vintage Rolex dating to 1977. Enjoy

I'm sorry, but I don't understand. Why did you do this? You've created a Frankenwatch. It is NOT a vintage Rolex dating to 1977 - it is bits and pieces from then - bits and pieces from who knows when. Why didn't you just purchase a steel & gold Datejust and be done with it?

And an aftermarket "PLATED" bracelet? You've got to be kidding!

I don't know about anyone else, but I like my Rolex watches, 100% authentic and original. If I like a certain feature or look of a Rolex model, I would save up to buy that model. For me, there is absolutely no aftermarket product that can enhance the beauty and value of a Rolex watch. Stick with what's original.

Just my .02 cents worth.

At this point of many years of Rolex ownership, I am happy with it and I was tired of a ss black dial datejust. I may even replace the solid gold bezel with a fat diamond bezel. I feel a better connection to this Frankenwatch than any completely original Rolex I ever owned. I love it.

Well, JJ, I was always strictly a SS Rolex guy. Along with your enthusiasm for TT and seeing such great photography, I was inspired to create. I thought it would be an interesting transformation. Just an extension of the hobby.

I must say, I was surprised when you said you went aftermarket for the jubilee band after you inquired about possibly purchasing mine. However, hearing that you got a plated one, I am disappointed. IMO, the problem now is that when someone says, "Is that a Rolex?", you'll have to reply, "sort of". It seems as though going from a Rolex to a partial Rolex isn't really a great move, but to each his own, I suppose. I'm sure the plated bracelet didn't cost much, so if you decide to turn to 100% Rolex, it won't be too much of a loss.

Personally, I don't think converting to a TT is that bad, because as I understand things, Rolex ADs used to promote that in the 60's and 70's. If someone was interested in buying a TT, but didn't have the cash, the dealers would tell them they could upgrade in the future as a way to get them in the door.

Has anyone else heard of this policy?

I was interested in your band, but I am glad you brought that up on the conversion offered in the 60-70s which gave me the idea maybe 10 years ago that someone mentioned it in a internet watch story board. I had purchased other rolies since then but it was a project I just had to work on plus motivation here. The band is ok, but the appearance of my watch is your standard looking TT Datejust. If anyone were to see my watch, you probably wouldn't lift an eyebrow as to knowing it to be a TT Rolex. I change my band quite often, so I was even thinking of an all black Nato, a Rubber strap, or a piece of string LOL. Seriously, the watch is pretty much a TT DJ. The serial still says 16014 which is correct for a SS Datejust with Engine bezel. I think the gold makes it more bold and flashy.

It IS a nice watch and probably would not be mistaken for a fake. But how is a DJ with a SS serial number BASICALLY a TT DJ?

What is the resale value of this watch? And would it be touched by an RSC?

Put it like this.....I have never sent a Rolex to rsc...and never will..I believe that watch reparimen have a career and they went to the same school as people that went to watchmaking school for rolex. I am a firm believer in education, and I am happy to give my watch repairman work on my watch. He is the one that did the installation and conversion. Besides, I doubt anyone is going to check serial numbers while on my wrist.

Listen, Mikey. What we are saying is that most of us would never do what you have had done to this watch. That being said, it is indeed YOUR watch. You can stuff Timex parts in it if you like. If you are happy with the results, and you don't EVER expect to get a good price selling it one day, then you are good to go. Enjoy your watch!

And BTW, if anyone DOES try to check serial numbers while the watch is on your wrist, they may be WAY too far inside your personal space!

I was not in any way trying to put you down on your decision. I can totally see why you did this, 1) you have a great looking watch 2) it is unique that you put it together your self.

People like modifying things, take cars/trucks for instance. They just like to have something no body else has and can call it there own

Confession time: I purchased a SS president bracelet on fleabay for my SS DateJust. The bracelet was of high quality and looked great with the DJ. But it bugged the hell out of me that this was not a correct combo so I returned it back to the original jubilee.

Your happiness with your watch[es] is what matters. Lifes too short.

Dan, I will tell you that I have changed quite a few Rollies to my personal liking, but it was either a bezel/band combo only.This is my first full transformation from a 16014 to a 16013 Gold/SS combo. I look at my wrist everyday and smile.

My Rolex clasp has come in and now the transformation is REALLY complete. Just got back from my jeweler installing the clasp. The transformation was a plain stainless steel Datejust transformed into a TT Rolex Datejust. Everything gold is pure gold and steel.

Oh yes, you have flexibility with original and aftermarket bands. I have owned 3 genuine Rolex bands for this same watch during its transformation but the thing with Rolex is you can get bored. These pics are of my current watch the way I am wearing it for the 4th July

My watch has all the upgrades from original. Sapphire glass 40 diamond bezel president band. The approximate year is 1978 believe it or not. My watch is super high gloss polish and Hadley Roma president style band.
