Cartier Tank recs?
Greetings,
I just saw my friend wear his Cartier tank watch at our kids graduation. For some reason now I want one. I for one think they are small, I usually 40mm and above but seeing it on him, im like it's actually pretty nice. You can dress it up/down. However, ive been reading up and majority of what I read is thats its mean to be on the small side. I know there are different sizes, large and xl. Any thoughts? I really would like a gold one... Automatic or quartz? Please help, any suggestions/comments are welcomed. thank you! |

I love the Tank! My wife has a Tank Must and a Francaise. I really want to get one for myself. If I do, it will be the Tank Louie in yellow gold.
It is timeless, goes well with any outfit. On this watch, less is more! I wear between 40-42 mm watches but for the Tank I’ll go with the small.

I have a Tank Solo XL which is on the cheaper end of the scale. Counting lugs is 40mm. The one on the brown strap.
The one on the dark strap is a Tank MC and is larger. Around 44mm. When looking at Tank watches one of the things is obviously the size but also on some models probably the more expensive gold ones, the dial is guilloched and probably more impressive.- the third picture in gold. Personally pretty much all my watches are automatic so not sure on what they have as quartz although some of the ladies watches are quartz. Hope this helps a little bit. Some history....https://www.townandcountrymag.com/st...watch-history/

Cartier makes very nice watches. My wife has a Tank on bracelet and really likes it - she wears it dressed up or down. I have a Calibre de Cartier and very happy with how it wears. Bought my mom a Tank last month as well. Strongly considering adding a Tank for myself (on strap).
Personally I’d try the sizes in-person to get a sense of preference. That said, I’d go a touch smaller than larger with a Tank. |

The Tank series is one of the only watches I'd be ok having a battery in, because the quartz movements don't use a second hand, and I think Tanks without that sweeping/ ticking 3rd hand look perfect. So for me - Tank Must in L, or Tank Louis Cartier.

There are many versions of the Tank, and each has its own charm and beauty. However, if you can swing it, I'd definitely get a manual wind Tank Louis Cartier. While the word iconic gets thrown around with a variety of watches, it has been made in some form or other for over 100 years. It never goes out of style. It is the watch most people think of when a person says Cartier Tank. I've had one for over 15 years and I love mine (mine is slightly larger than standard and isn't made anymore). Wishing you lots of luck with whatever you choose.

Tank is, well exactly what the name suggests. For a year I was back and forth between the new tank Francais or the large santos. Went to many ADs and Cartier boutiques through the year just to try it on and get a feel of it. I ultimately went with the santos blue dial, it is the one I’ve wanted for a few years. However, I believe at some point I will get the francais (new version) at some point.

I love the full Guilloche dial! The current model only has guilloche in the center rectangle...this cost cutting has got to stop!

That is the Tank Louis Cartier XL from the old Collection Privee. That collection was made from 1998 to 2008. That specific model was made from about 2006 to 2008. It is approximately 39mm x 30mm. They made 200 in rose gold and 50 in platinum.
Thank you so much! Cheers! |

I have two Tank Francois. One in gold and one in SS.
I like them, but I think JLC's reverso line is way more interesting and has a lot of variety to pick from complications wise. |

I love the Reverso, but with the exception of the relatively new chronograph, most complications on the Reverso look like after thoughts, and just add unnecessary bulk to the case. I'd also add that sadly prices they ask for the standard monoface have become rather overpriced and tough to justify.

You won't go far wrong with any tank. I like the Tank Louis, Tank Cintree, and Tank Normale the best. Cheers!

Found a L SolarBeat with card dated my 40th birthday. That's a sign, right?
