Thoughts on the Spectre/Bond Seamaster

I visited the local Omega boutique and checked out a few pieces they had including the limited edition Spectre Seamaster.

Now I love the new Seamaster 300 but I detest these special edition Bond watches. IMO they age horribly and buying a watch based off a movie just doesn't seem like a good idea to me. I also think it cheapens the Omega brand... you would NEVER see Rolex pull that sort of move.

Anyone else agree?

It's still one of the least offensive Bond Ltd Eds they've done. A '007' on the NATO bar, which you can swap out anyway, and not emblazoned on the watch like previous models, apart from the wording on the back of it which you can't see.

Omega's marketing strategy is debated here frequently. I love the Speedmaster and Omega can release a LE weekly for all I care as long as they keep making the original. Image if Rolex still offered the ND Submariner as it looked in the late 60's.

I'm not big on these LE Omegas, especially when tied to a movie like Bond. If I really liked the watch that wouldn't stop me from buying it but I'm not inclined to pay any premium for the limited edition status or Bond affiliation.

This is one that I would buy. I don't like the ones that are Bond advertisements for the wrist.

I like it. I myself wouldn't buy it, but I think it is attractive, and for those who LOVE 007, HAVE AT IT. Good for them.

I like the Seamaster line, not a big fan of the movie tie-ins; the Bentley/Breitling and Ball/BMW connections are similar gimmicks, in my opinion. The manufacturers must have seen enough data to support these moves, but they probably don't do much sampling on sites like this.

I grew up in a house of Omega lovers, both my father and mother wore them as far back as I can remember, thus I have a connection to the brand. Having said that, I view the Omega sponsorship of GoldenEye in 1995 as the starting point of me losing interest in the brand. I still love the original Speedmaster, Ploprof, Railmaster and a few others, but the commercialization of the brand, the 300 LE's per year, etc really cheapens the brand value for me.

I for one don't want the name of a character of a mass produced movie on my watch. Ever.

Finally, I do think that latest version of the watch is rather attractive looking, I just can't get passed the whole 007 thing.

Is probably the only Omega I might consider right now over and above my Speedmaster!

Movie tie-ins for watches is a bad idea.

I've still not seen the movie, although I'm a bond fan.

And I bought the watch. Not because of bond, but because I really like the watch. I prefer it to the non bond version.

And really, it's got a tiny 007 on a small piece of the nato. I've already adjust to a different nato, and that's gone. But I'll put it back at some point.

And another reference on the back. But no one can see that.

I don't think it's a walking advertisement in any way. And it's a really sharp, high quality watch.

No matter how cool the Bond character is in the books and films, it's still tacky to market a high end watch by associating it with said fictional character. Rolex would never do this. Omega makes some great watches, but their marketing strategy is a big turn-off.

It would not be the first omega I jump to buy, however if I was flush with cash, I would buy the limited edition as a collector of Bond watches.

Do what I did. Buy the seamaster 300 MC and add the omega Bond NATO and you are good to go! Great watch btw. Keeps outstanding time and looks great on the NATO

That looks awesome too. My dilemma is that I love the time zone bezel on the Spectre, but I hate the lollipop second hand. What I need is a SM300 with the time zone bezel.

But then you don't get the lollipop seconds hand. I literally love that little feature. Sets off the whole watch IMO.

Wasn't Dominos' guarantee 20 minutes or less?

My favorite is the DD two-tone KFC commemorative.

I hear you. I actually seriously considered both before my purchase. I too would have preferred the second time zone bezel. However, I did not want the branding of the 007. I just thought the branding was a bit over the top for my taste. I,have no regrets. It is essentially the same watch minus the few differences. In all honesty, though, the ceramic bezel is quite thin making the bezel numbers very discreet

New Seamaster 300 MCs can be had with good discounts if you look on the boards with trf trusted sellers.

Good luck with your decision.

I bought the SPECTRE version and simply took off the 007 NATO and put on the Standard Omega version. Just like the movie watch - no 007 visible! Sorted :)
