Howcome the Cartier Roadster doesnt get much love?
I see alot of love for Santos understandably and the tank and especially now for them in vintage but the beautiful discontinued Roadster doesnt seem to get much love in watch circles. Why is that?

It was always sort of an odd duck in the Cartier line up. If I remember correctly it had also had a rather unique quick strap/bracelet change.
The magnified date design was pretty cool how it worked seamlessly into the case. I think the very latest one did away with that. Not sure I had one and loved it though, it was the older version like your bottom picture. I've often thought of getting the newer version of it.

Your top picture probably flopped because the sub dial is intruded upon by the date.

Cartier watches have a design language that’s all about the shape, but imho it works best when the design is based on art deco and is simple/streamlined.
The Cartier Tortue has a similar case shape, but seems to be better executed because of its simplicity. |

My fathers bracelet disconnects itself from the watch and falls off pretty often when he wears it. Mostly when wearing the black leather strap that they also came with. He sent it back to Cartier several times and had no luck, also looked at by my independent watchmaker.
It seems like no one has ever been able to pin down exactly what it’s happening, probably just a poor design. It’s a shame because it looks super shard on the black leather strap. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

It’s a cool looking watch, but that crown looks like it’d poke a whole in your wrist depending …

I thought it was the coolest watch in the mid-2000s. When I had no money to buy nice watches. Now I couldn’t imagine buying it - just don’t think the design language aged well.

Because the watch is fugly. Had a buddy who had one and it looked just as fugly in person (this is my humble opinion). That crown, specifically the tip at the end, looks like an erect nipple.

Wow! Lots of hate for the Cartier Roadster Chronograph XL but I loved this watch ever since I was younger. I love the quick interchangeable bracelet to straps. They were one of the first to do it.
Here is my larger version without the cyclops on the date that was gifted by my wife so it has sentimental value to me. I would never get rid of it. Although, I must admit, I rarely wear it anymore as my collection grew. Couple of shots below: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

My Dad has one and it is so bulky IMO. Kind of an ok design...but just fundamentally ugly lol
